Post practice reports that Amare putting in some extra work so that he can lose weight.

“@RonE_Coleman7: @alanhahn How Does Amare look? Any better yet?” put in extra work postpractice. Seems to be looking to shed weight -- Alan Hahn (@alanhahn)

Both Amare and DAntoni spoke with confidence that Amare will get his pop back. Expecting a strong 2nd Half from him. #Knicks -- Alan Hahn (@alanhahn)

Excellent. Let's hope it's the weight that's hurting his pop and that he gets it back.

Great to know that our star player came into the season out of shape and needs to lose weight mid-season. NOT.

Ignorance much. Hurt back in playoffs. (Played in pain). Set back doing basketball workouts in early summer. Trainers told Amare to shut down all basketball and aerobic activities for the summer. So he could only lift weights to strengthen and keep as much fat off as possible. And he gained so much muscle. With no summer ball very rusty. With extra weight he's slower and less explosive.

It is a big difference from his physique this year to last year.

If GS is trying to shed Ellis, Lee and Biedrins I don't think they would want to pick up Amar'e in the process. There would have it be a 3rd team involved to send them what they want to be able to get anything from them.

Amar'e did look a little heavier to start the season, but not out of shape, the guy is in great shape. Whether the weight gain was him intending to play center or it's a result of him recovering from the back injury and not able to do all his typical workout stuff I don't know but it hasn't helped his game at all.

It could even be that it's just what happens when you get older, it's not unusual for someone to gain a little weight around the age of 30. He'll need to alter his diet and do extra cardio to be able to trim that off as opposed to resistance training to turn it to muscle which would keep the weight there.
If you'd rather see your team fail so you can be right
...you are a fan of your opinion not the team.

I'm laughing at the notion that the added weight just kind of happened because he was forced to do nothing but lift weights due to his back injury.

Poor guy, he couldn't do court work as much as he wanted to, so he unfortunately got saddled with 20 lbs of lean muscle mass. I hate when that happens.

I guess he could just get fat. And do nothing to stay in any kind of shape.

The idea that he put on 20 lbs of muscle because he couldn't do anything else is a joke. You don't put on that much muscle mass, or any significant amount of muscle mass for that matter, without clearly focusing on doing so.

You also don't put on that type of mass if you're limited in your ability to do cardio by a back injury.

It's just not possible. He made a concerted effort to bulk up, and it was the wrong decision.

His weight problems are without any doubt due to his bad diets... Just look at his official FB profile:

He looks like a beast on culinary more than in bball court!! :P :D

Then why would they be "aggressively" pursing Monta?

He's in a massive shooting slump as well, certainly not the player to try to keep Howard in Orlando.

They are trying to keep monta in addition to Howard while amare would be included in a deal for Howard. You're comparing apples and oranges.

Not really.

By context, if they aren't interested in a player because of production concerns why would they want either of them, which is the point I was making.

OAN, the Magic wanted Bynum in a deal for Howard, and he definitely has the knee concerns.

Goddamnit smh..I mean even though I said we were strong favorites, from the Magic side I doubt we were even a mild consideration.

If the Magic really think this, I fear what other teams around the league think of Amare's trade value

1. Monta doesn't have bum knees compared to Amar'e & even though he's been in a shooting slump he's still averaging 22 points & 6 assists per game (5.8)

2. Dwight would love to play with Monta that's why they're trying to get him now. The same goes for Dwight wanting to play with Steve Nash.

This is just Broussard throwing stuff at the wind. The Magic wanted Bynum.

And as far as Monta goes, the guy is taking close to 20 shots to get those points, and is shooting below 30% on threes.

Dwight has those types of players on his team now.

Comparing Monta to Nash is not a good comparison at all.

The thing though is even if Broussard is just talking out of his ass it's uncomfortable to think what we can get for Amar'e, if anything. Hopefully we're still in this Dwight trade chase so that we can either acquire him or make the Nyets have to throw in more pieces.

As far as the Magic wanting Bynum goes, even though Bynum has worse knees his numbers don't lie this season. I'm pretty sure the Lakers right now are contemplating if they even want to trade Bynum anymore.

And I know how poorly Monta has been this season but Dwight wants to play with him. This has been known since about maybe last season I think. And I'm not comparing the two, a report came out the other day that Dwight wants to play with Steve Nash, that's why I said that.

Amar'e did bulk up because he thought it would protect him playing centre. Like Tracy McGrady he got too big. When Tracy bulked up he got slower and injured because he was carrying too much weight. Amar'e has been slowed down by it and his advantage has always been speed. Now he's playing out on the perimeter because of the unforeseen signing of Tyson Chandler he absolutely doesn't need to be 260lbs. So he's trying to shed.

Considering he came in at a reported 7 per cent body fat there's not much to lose. He has to change his strength routine to not so heavy and lighter reps. There will be a strength loss, too, but it should help get his explosion back.

Fair enough.

Not to go too far off topic, but I don't think Howard gets traded, and goes to Jersey in the off-season.

No one is gonna rent Howard, and Howard wants to be the main man in a big market.

Plus his desire to do off the court activities and having Jazy-Z as an owner would be golden to him.

Plus they have the cap space, he won't lose much money, and they won't have to give up anything for him.
