"Good luck, let us know what offer you get and what you decide."

Then at least Lin knows the deal and if he really wants NY, maybe he takes that first offer sheet from Houston and not the second one.

I am guessing strongly that no such communication was made to Lin and that is gross incompetence.

KG they never wanted him... the only way he was coming back is if on July 1st he came crawling to Dolans office and kissed the ring on his finger... because you know Dolan has accomplished so much in his life and had so much to teach young Jeremy.

You don't think they'd have matched at $9M per? I think so. They just let the situation get out of their control with a lack of communication.

It's one thing to just lose a player to an injury, or age, or a contract offer you literally can't meet ... it's a whole other thing to kick the ball away this badly with negligence and malpractice.

They could have at least communicated with Lin and then you can say -- "We told you not to sign a balloon payment deal if you wanted to come back to New York" and let him go with a conscience that is free and clear.

It's a whole other thing to have played your hand so badly, and let this get out of control. It's up to Grunwald and the others to make sure that the communication lines stay open and people are on the same page.

It is absolutely their fault that things became derailed.

And in the end, even if you draw a line in the sand and Lin crosses it, you have the peace of mind knowing that he didn't really want to be a Knick or was trying to call your bluff.

Of course, we know better and the Knicks could fairly easily have unloaded contracts in Year 3 in order to avoid the big luxury tax hit. Hell, they didn't need to extend all these contracts into Year 3 with guys we don't even need (especially if we're not bringing back Lin).

Novak $3M
Kidd $3M
Camby $3M
Felton $3M

All of these guys are useless in three years and nearly equal Lin's cap hit that season. Hell they're useless now because they are aging/mediocre players and our team is not in position to contend for a title.

Why even have these guys on the roster now? So you can PRETEND to CONTEND. Because without Lin, you're pretenders.

Hell that should be our new slogan: PRETEND TO CONTEND in 2012-2013 with your NEW YORK KNICKS.

From what I've been reading and connecting the dots.. the only way he was going to be a knick is if he came to Dolan and management and negotiated exclusively with them. They never wanted him to field offers even though they might've intimated it... it was like some sick test of his loyalty. They wanted him to show them some gratitude for them giving him a chance to get signed, rot on the bench, get sent down to the d-league and almost cut him before actually giving him a chance to save their reputation and the reputation of the players making 100millions of dollars.

Why do you think this?People have suspected he's still had pull in the Knicks for awhile now, and it's not just us. Hell, even people on twitter are saying he took a shot at Lin. Not saying that's credible, but it's not like only realgm thinks this. It's more than a coincidence imo.

Well maybe. I don't know. I'm just saying it seems like a pointer for PG's. Maybe it is a shot of some kind. Who knows.

If so, he really is influencing Dolan. Unreal.

I mean, I wouldn't be shocked at anything from this organization right now. Eddy Curry could take over as team president and I wouldn't be shocked.

And **** JR Smith for that picture

My guess is they couldn't fathom him getting that offer. We have bad talent evaluators, operating under the Isaiah school of thought (which values crossovers and chucking) and they simply do not see how Lin's game is special.

Post mortem, prepared 7/17/2012

I am done with basketball until the current circle of garbage makes a full revolution around its axis.

You can call me a coward, you can call me a fraud, you can call me not a true Knick fan, that is fine but the fact is I am not going to waste a significant portion of my time and energy devoted to a team that is being run by a bunch of amateurs who are constantly being owned by other teams and are constantly repeating the same mistakes of the past.

With that said, I still strongly believe that it is being run by Isiah Thomas through his connections with Dolan, Woodson, and Grunwald. As long as Dolan is being mislead by "The Isiah" this organization will continue its failures and misfortunes.

We will have success this upcoming season but will not win a championship. The fans that believe right now will make more excuses for why we didn't but will ultimately take a hit confidence wise as well.

The window is slowly closing and still it will be difficult to win it all, especially when Dolan consistently imposes his personal touch onto the team as we have seen with Melo and now Lin. We are unable to add any impactful pieces and when God sent us a hero that might have led us to a championship, we ended up giving him up for nothing.

In the end we will be back where it all started when Walsh took over, too many overpaid players, no capspace and lack of franchise caliber youth, the trademark of an Isiah run organization.

The same fans that are happy right now because they foolishly believe we have a contending team will all grow bitter over time and end up like the people that have given up or are close to giving up on the organization.

It would be better for our long term health if we just simply stopped supporting Dolan and force him to reconsider everything he has done but unfortunately there is no way for that to happen.

Enjoy the season and good luck to the die hard fans, I hope I am wrong about everything and I hope the Knicks win a championship.

I don't really mind them being all chummy with JR. That's probably why we got him on a cheap deal.

glad I didn't buy a Lin jersey, the only jersey safe at this point is Carmelos

After sleeping on it, I still think Melo is in for a world of fan torture & pain this season.

Nothing can stop that now. We're not going to win enough to make fans excited/happy. We will be a little better than mediocre but it won't reverse the torrent of unhappiness that will flood Melo.

Some to Felton too.

the target on melo's back is going to be gigantic.

unless the knicks go 82-0, and/or win a championship, knicks fans are going to need to find a scapegoat.

i think melo will be able to handle it, or at least i hope he does. if he and chandler can't handle it, then i don't think any player is going to want to go to the NYK.

jeffries did it for several years.

Well we can always ignore the team until Dolan is too old. I fear we are in the middle of a (late) Al Davisque run here. Without the earlier glory days to comfort us. Perhaps we can become somewhat wealthy capitalizing on this teams ineptitude. (?)

I mean, he'll be the one that'll likely deserve it. Or Felton the moment he doesn't equal Lin's production

Man **** a James Dolan...

And we followed the team when they sucked because we knew that they can only get better at some point.

As for now, I'm not quite sure, in fact i'm know I'm sure we don't have the guys at the top who even want to get better.

It won't... Amar'e is generally viewed as a good guy whereas Melo is seen as a malcontent who doesn't like to play nice on the court. It's going to Melo 100%... but you gotta understand what you're doing when you decide to be a high profile athlete in NYC... that city will rip you to shreds if you don't perform.. and that doesn't mean win a few games or a couple of playoff games.. they want championships, period.

Return to New York Knicks
