Why would it cost picks to get him in free agency? I mean if you trade for him, you'd have to extend and that's what you suggested that he wouldn't want. I didn't think too much about it so far obviously, but if you're right, great! That dude is a killer.
Oladipo apparently will try Free Agency. If Indiana is unsure about Max him after the injury or is afraid to lose him to another team, they will try to move him, to secure a compensation. It would run like the Melo transfer. The "buyer" would make sure that Oladipo promise that will sign with them in off-season. If Oladipo tells small market teams he is not interested, he would be limited to big market teams, giving us an edge.
Its definitely better to get him in Free Agency. But we know we are desperate for big names and I think the FO will not miss an opportunity like that. If we wait, its possible we lose him to medium markets like Toronto, San Antonio or Dallas, that will have Cap Space in 2021.
