The Knicks FO want to "win" with second contact stars, maybe including Donovan Mitchell.

RJ has already failed. This is not his year, Randle or no, for key development.

So let him be the 3rd or 4th option. Reduce his minutes a little, bump up Fournier's off the bench some (if he's not going out in the trade). It's ok.

His corner 3 percentage wasn't bad the year before last. So, yes, sure, park him there and call him a "4th" option. And then the Knicks can figure out what to do next summer

Do you pay a corner 3 point specialist 181M? That's the biggest dilemma of them all. And like you said, with Brunson and potentially DMitch on the roster, at BEST he's a 3rd option, but I don't believe Randle is giving up his standing on this team any time soon. The FO believes in Randle too, so it's not like they're going to put RJ above him just because he was the 3rd pick in the draft.

It actually might end up benefitting the FO a lot if RJ plays a limited role on the team this coming year. He won't have the stats and won't have the leverage to command that 181M. And how will RJ feel about that? In his contract year? I know he's been a team player, but if there was a year to be selfish and try to 'get his' it would be this year. RJ and his agents are well aware that's the situation he's in. Very interesting year for the Knicks for a lot of reasons.

The saddest thing about trading the 27 and 29 picks is sham and wingo probably will not be around to suffer to see the Jazz get our top 3 picks. But atleast they'll go out seeing us get another flawed star and not being able to surround him with proper talent.

Life is all about seeing the silver linings.

They added a 22 year decent player who could be traded again for value if he puts up some numbers this year. Plus, THT is a perfect tank player as well. And for a player who was just thrown into the deal with Minny? I'd say not a bad haul. Plus Stanley Johnson would is also another great tank commander.

What were they going to do with a 34 year vet journeyman on their roster? Might as well flip him for a young player who did show some promise not too long ago.

Put Eve alone in a room with Danny Ainge and I feel confident we’ll come out ahead in the DM trade.

Mitchell is only 25. In 2027 he will only be 30yrs. old.

Mitchell isn't a bandaid fix. He is a long term fix.

Or do I have it completely wrong.

Why would the Knicks want THT????
https://lakeshowlife.com/2022/07/18/lakers-talen-horton-tucker-trade-value-drew-league/

I have no idea. I was responding to the person who thought they might, or that this move indicated dominoes.

It can't be Stanley Johnson they want. Very inefficient. Turrible.

They wouldn't be the key pieces coming back in the deal moreso depth.

Both THT and Johnson are decent sized guards/wings that play good defense for thibs and could round out a bench. I don't think the Knicks would have any use for beverly

I am actually a really nice guy that just wants the best for Julius Randle. He will love it in Utah. they have a very nice Lake I hear

Wow willing to destroy the Knicks future to make Randle happy. My man Deez is the biggest Randle fan out there!

They really aren't. Mitchell is a killer. Plays great in playoffs. How did RJ and Randle look in the playoffs? There are regular season players and then there are stars like Mitchell who are needed for the playoffs.

You keep forgetting how this works.....IF the Cavs or another team matches or beats the Knicks current offer THEN the Knicks can raise it to beat that one....the Knicks don't have to raise their offer to beat an imaginary offer that doesn't exist.

That's usually how it works because all-stars are usually traded with one year left on their contract and the team trading them is against the clock to get something for them rather than lose them for nothing. They are also often dealing a player who has demanded to be traded.

Mitchell has 3 years years left on his deal and hasn't asked for a trade. Utah isn't dealing Mitchell to the highest bidder. They are doing the same thing they did with Gobert, which is dealing their player for what they consider an acceptable price. They have plenty of time to find a better deal if they don't like NY's offer. This fantasy that they are desperate to deal because they want to tank is purely that, a fantasy.

The fantasy is you thinking market dynamics don't apply to the player your favorite team has because in your imagination you think it doesn't apply, it absolutely does apply. You can wait for 3 years for this imaginary offer and if it never shows up he leaves your imaginary ass and the franchise for nothing.

Along the way there is a considerable amount of risk that can devalue this asset dropping it even further away from this imaginary offer you think is going to drop out of the heavens while the clock ticks on this time cushion you have waiting for the imaginary offer that might never come.

There are way more scenarios where something can happen during that time that can devalue a player than there are scenarios of teams coming up with the fantastical package your GM thinks he can get. In the end the Knicks will have the last offer because they have what your GM wants.

You can't compare one player with another, one trade with another or one team with another and expect to get an exact duplication of value. No matter how desperately you want to do that this isn't how markets work, all the variables change and those change the conditions of the market.

You saying what you think it should be on a forum doesn't actually change what it is and occasionally you will run into someone as observant as me who will let you know your imagination doesn't make it reality....this isn't 'the secret'. So good luck with waiting for your fantasy offer.

How long has it been? 1 month? Lol. Dude, it's still the dog days of summer. You act like the Jazz have been trying to unload Mitchell for 2 years and they can't find any suitors. Ainge has no reason to rush into any deal right now. No one associated with the Jazz (including their fans) would want Ainge to do that. Plenty of time to wait for the offer he wants. And I know, I know... there is no other team that has anything of value to offer Utah, I get it. We'll see what happens in the end. I hope you're right.

That's cool - I can count.

The problem is we might still have the same front office that reupped Elf after watching him for a year, signed a washed kemba after that, signed Randle a year early, traded for Cam only to bury him on the bench, and so forth. So yeah I'm not super confident in them building a team around a midget backcourt.

But let's not look to the past when the future looks rosey.

I thought Beverly couldn't be traded yet?

Or, they are allowed to work out the details but not execute the trade until Sept 06?

Good point. People have been pushing this Sept. 6th thing, yet here we are. Bev getting traded is announced. I guess that speculation has been put to rest?

actually its not. I would make sense to be more flexible in terms of money going forward.
maybe you could even get a pick back from the lakers if you take russ for lets say Rose, Fournier and Cam.
