he probably doesn’t deserve to play over those guys since they’re just better players. that’s what a lot of folks on our board failed to realize and just automatically chalked it up to thibs not liking him and being hard headed. thibs has a pretty good eye for who can play and who can’t, not that obi is a complete scrub but he’s not a player who absolutely needs to see the floor every night if he’s not producing.. he isn’t that good

They're talking about Jarace Walker now. Keep up.

I thought Obi would be playing MUCH better. I admit it. Here for voluntary flogging, or walk of shame. You can decide.

Season is early but worth mentioning that he‘s starting for a team with a better record than us.

I think a lot of it is a combination of liking Obi more than Julius, Obi seeming by all accounts to be a good guy, Obi playing a more entertaining style, Obi bring local, and Obi being a life long Knicks fan. I don't know how many pro Obi people actually think he's better, one to one, with Randle.

Another big part of it is those who felt moving Randle and promoting Obi was an addition by subtraction. Not that Obi would replace Julius' production, for example, RJ would, or another incoming player.

Short version, cannot necessarily compare them one to one. Even if Obi is doing more, I imagine it's all in the flow of the team, not iso. Last night showed how much NYK need Randle (or someone that can fill his production void).

This is very cleverly the accurate truth of the matter. Unless your IQ is below 90, in which case the world is a simple, never ending series of oppositional binaries.

Why is that worth mentioning if he hasn’t been closing games? Idk about last night but ive watched every Pacers game. Hes just not a very good rebounder and most of the time the only way he can score is if hes cherry picking

Because we traded him and don’t have a backup 4 it is worth mentioning.
And well, Obi is not a mental case and fragile.

Anyway, we’d be a better team if we had a backup four (especially come playoffs, when we can’t get to the finals playing small ball). But I get it, it’s a business, except with Obi, then we do favors.

I mean, sure. But he would have walked in the near term. You can fault the team for waiting too long and/or not getting enough. And, yes, it was a favor. But he was not staying as a long term backup 4. Could be a did the right thing at wrong time type thing. Bigger organizational failure is not replacing him. Might survive short term if Randle is healthy, but really hitching the wagon. Also makes a Randle trade for a non-PF hard, interpret as you like.
