BTW just checked and Ozil's actually a third generation turkish immigrant, so not only was he born and raised in germany but his parents as well that's pretty german.

I know little to nothing about soccer, i never really watch. I must admit though that the world cup is exciting because all countries come together to see who is truely the best (unlike MLB, NBA ect..). The is the only event of its kind where all countries come together outside of the Olympics.

Ofcourse I'll be rooting for the US. And my wife is Nigerian by way of Ivory Coast, so we'll be rooting for them as well.

I think ABC has done a disservice by hyping up the USA v. England match. It's not going to end well. England has too much unfinished business from not making the cup in 06.

Terrible offside call there on the Mexican team, I think some NBA refs are in South Africa.

horrible offside call how can vela be offside when the opposing defender was on the goal line ....other than S.A. 5 minutes of attack towards the end Mexico pretty much controlled that game

RSA looks sloppy, a lot of passes given away but to their credit they've fought to a draw thus far, whether it was fair or not with that offside call..

apparently the ref made the right call i dont understand it but since vela was behind the goalie, the goal was disallowed :S

The rule is you need to be infront of the next to last defender. Since Vela was behind the goalie he was only in front of one defender once the ball was played to him.

And yet they still gave him a Turkish name.

Situations like this aren't uncommon at all. Obviously the country a player is raised in will always have the advantage in keeping the player, but thats not always the case.

What a strike. Left-footed to the opposite upper 90.
