I admittedly don't watch every game so I can't comment on all of them. But based solely on last night's game. What is Chandler supposed to do when nobody's boxing out ( Battier was coming from the three point line unfettered), the guards are constantly letting their men in the paint ( lo Norris Cole). If Kenyon Martin isn't out there Tyson's expected to take on multiple guys as well as rebound. I don't know anybody who can do all that.

He always represented a degree of motivational risk (not to mention injury risk).

He certainly has not come up big in the post-season here.

To think the exemption was used in order to acquire Tyson when we could have used it half a season later to get out of the cap hell Amare got us into. The money for Tyson + Amare + Melo combined really has not worked.

TO be fair, he was injured in both post seasons and the one before last he was also playing through a virus.

To be fair about being fair, some players always end up with some issues and some are more durable and even when they have some ailments they still find a way to impact the games. Tyson is the guy who always seems to have something holding him back for a significant portion of the season. Fans don't have to temper their criticisms because of it. That's what he is, an injury-prone player who gets the flu repeatedly. He doesn't make the grade and he sure isn't worth anything close to what he is paid.

Chandler is better than anyone the Knicks have had at center over the last decade (although if Mutumbo had been younger when the Knicks acquired him, that wouldn't have been true, inasmuch as Mutumbo had a much more dominating prime than Chandler). But I'm not clear how much better Chandler is than, say, a Mozgov / Koufas pairing (which would have cost the team about $10 million less than Chandler, especially given Chandler's history of motivational risk).

Mozgov would be very good to have. Thanks James Dolan.

Tyson is not completely wrong about lacking help since this team seems to mess up their defensive assignments so much or simply fail to defend at all, but he still should be better. His fire is gone too often to my taste.

I'd like him fine IF we had a Mozgov too, but Tyson alone is not enough. I don't like him at $14M. K-Mart often impacts the game more than him.

I've never called him trash like some, but I'm not confident in his contributions any longer whatsoever. That we've lacked quality defensive centers for so long gives him the benefit of the weak comparisons you're mentioning.

But this franchise has failed to field a top center and top PG on the same team at the same time since the 90s.

And I don't think he deserved DPOY. Not sure how he got the votes, but he was so much better in his first season here. If we had that Tyson, I'd be satisfied, but we don't.

What i do see quite often with Tyson is he helps too much.

He is routinely seen guarding pg's on the wing in a doubling situation and while that is noble it takes away from what he should be doing which is manning the paint.

Using last nite for instance, Battier wasnt his assignment....Chandler's "assignment" went 2-11.

But I do expect Tyson is challenge whomever comes into the paint if he is in there.

But i truly do think he knows he made a mistake coming here....felt this way two years ago.

Dantoni used to do the same thing, and I cant stand that junk. Biased accountability. It shows how little balls Woodson has. The young guys get chirped at and put on a one inch leash while our "vets" get to take a sh*t and smear it all over the floor every night, but it's cool because "they know what they're doing." Ha.

Tyson and Felton are awesome to watch. They really are. Seeing them b*tch about everything and deflect afterwards is top notch. They honestly think they're good players and that tickles my sausage. They should be proud.

I thought I was going crazy with the amount of times ive seen Tyson just let some toad waltz into the lane and lay it up without him even raising his hand. This is what the man gets paid 14 mill a year for and I cant remember the last time I really watched a game and thought Tyson made a 14 million dollar impact.

Trade him. Get whatever we can get. Aldrich can do better, or he can't do much worse.

Well, at least your pickle gets tickled.

It goes back to the way this franchise handles players. Playing time defers to salary structure much of the time. I've never been really sure what part of Dolan's agenda has been executed by Woodson, but it is clear Woodson already had a bias against younger players.

So it works out just the way you are saying where the guys who have booked their big contract know they get preferential treatment from the coach which is exactly not the message you want to send to the rest of the players. I'm not saying that doesn't exist to some degree on all clubs, but here it is definitely the default logic. It is garbage psychology and an anti-winning ethos, not the way to build a winning culture.

Yup there's no way Amare, Bargs, Tyson, and JR won't play a lot because of all the money they're making. It's going to be a long few years until they're gone. But I'm sure we'll find a way to overpay some other bubs right after and keep it going, starting with our prodigal son Melo.

God this team is depressing .

Tyson is expected to either put his hands up, or attempt to defend the basket against a man a full foot shorter than him. That would be a start and quite frankly, shouldn't be too much to ask. This is the NBA. If PGs are running layup drills on the former DPOY, it sets the tone for the game. It let's the opponent know that we have punk guarding the basket.

As far as rebounding goes, those tip outs count as rebounds. Let's not act like he's some sort of a beast on the glass. Lastly, I'd rather see Tyson use his fouls defending the basket instead of shoving guys in the back, or pushing guys after the play. Dude is all talk.

I think Tyson makes us a better team, but unless we are winning a chip in the next two years he needs to be traded. Tyson to Thunder for Perkins/Adams and 2014 first?

I THINK I WOULD **** MY PANTS IF CHANDLER THE SO CALLED "DPOY" MADE 1 HARD FOUL AT THE BASKET AFTER THE OPPOSING TEAM CONTINUALLY HAS UNCONTESTED LAYUPS.

 The only way anyone would give up a pick in that deal is if Dolan traded with himself.

The Heat are the 2 time defending champs. There entire team helps out in the paint and on the boards. The Pacers entire team plays D and helps out in the paint too. The Knicks have 1 guy doing that defensively.

the heat are the wost rebounding team in the league and the only 7 footer out there could barely muster 11

If you watch the Heat play you will see the entire teams helps out in the paint. Lebron, Wade, Bosh, Birdman, Battier, Haslem, Chalmers...If they aren't going for a block or steal, they will at least step in the lane to draw a charge or slow down the offense. Very few Knicks step up in the lane to at least draw a charge or contest shots. Good defensive teams like the Heat, Pacers, Spurs...they all buy into the scheme and help out.

Chandler's definetly been disappointing at times, but you can't put multiple bad defenders out there and have terrible defensive game plans then blame it on Chandler if the defense isnt great.

Norris Cole, who might barely reach Tyson's head if he was standing on LeBron's shoulders, also punked Tyson.

He's just not that good. Not really his fault -- not like he's not trying. He is just overrated on some things.

For instance, his awareness in the paint is pretty bad. Besides those layups, he was just staring at the ball a couple of times while cutters snuck in behind him for easy scores.

His little tantrums are lame though.

The biggest issue is, beyond the lob play, he's useless on offense so, if a player is only going to be useful on defender, he better believe he will be more scrutinized on that end than any other player and guards routinely scoring in the paint is unacceptable.
