For some reason, my mind keeps going back to what Riley did with Miami (Wade/Shaq) - got his players, fired the coach, and won a championship. Not sure if Phil would fire his guy (Kerr, Fisher, whomever) like Pat the Rat did, but joining the coaching staff doesn't seem out of the realm of possibility IMO.

Yeah me too.

WHOA!

kind of amazing that he admitted that. they sandbagged the season. what up tapeemall

What kind of mental midget admits that? How do you bring back a player that admits they quit on a season for crying out loud.

It's human nature to doubt your leadership if you don't believe they know what their doing. There's nothing wrong with this. Have some perspective.

Melo loses either way. Nothing he does will be the right thing.

I know Lambieer is coaching the Liberty, if there was one guy I'd want coaching this team it be him. I saw that 30/30 on the Pistons he put everybody in there place and told what their roles was going to be and if they didn't buy in they needed to GTFO

I don't see why Melo would take 17-18 this year when he can make 23 next year.

Then he can work with Phil and the players they are trying to recruit and come up with a number that fits in our plans during the 2015 offseason.

However it is difficult to tell a player to not lock in his financial security for the next 4 years but what are the chances he has a career ending injury?

That's cool & all, I see where you're coming from but in a hypothetical view that he opts out & is offered 17-18 million would there be a problem since he didn't opt in or no?

I wouldn't have an issue with it because then because next year he would probably be making slightly under 20 million which you can definitely build a team around.

I would have no issues as long as Melo is demanding the Kobe max from the knicks. From the sound of it, if he is, Phil isn't going to give him that and we can hopefully work out a S&T then

Phil gets it (of course) and has the gravitas to know when to challenge a player. Melo needs to start sacrificing from Point A if he wants to win big. Phil can get him there, but he'll have to start sacrificing. That's the only way you win a title.

Maybe not but he's clearly putting his imprint on who is, and will be, in control of this franchise.

Funny how the media slurps the Bulls. I know they had a good regular season (so did we a year ago) and have a great coach.

But if it were the Knicks and the situation was reversed, the media would say: 'They have a horrible offense, don't belong in the playoffs, and their only hope is a point guard who is having terrible knee injuries at an early age. Melo would be crazy to go there!'

Etc.

It's Phil letting Melo know he isn't dealing with Dolan, who would give him everything he wants without a second thought.

Carmelo lost all leverage after Phil said that

How so? Carmelo opened this door a few months ago, Phil is just reaffirming that Melo will be asked to take a pay cut as he said he would.

I have an early prediction -- if Isola can't get traction with his Dolan gossip stories, he'll start going after Phil directly. He'll say Phil ran Melo out of town. He's already laying the foundation. You can see it coming. If Melo leaves, that's all he'll say. Prediction, timestamped here.

It would be terrific if Jackson can convince Laimbeer to join his staff so he can work with guys like Stoudemire and Bargnani.

By the way, it was reported that Steve Kerr and Marv Albert will be in New York on Sunday to call the Raptors vs Nets game.

Translation, Phil doesn't give a damn about the media's opinion. He considers them bottom feeders. He will give them what he feels like saying. At the end of the day, Woodson lost his respect with the players, there was no other choice other than to fire him.
