I meant without adding other pieces but I just tried it and it does work. I thought we were off by a few bucks

probably because we just like to "play" things out...instead of being proactive.

perfect time to accumulate a few late 1st rounders...if you hit on one you will have cheap rotational players.

You could even use a few of them to possibly trade up.

if the season ended today we could get 18 and 23 in the trade I proposed plus we would have 37 and 44 (2nd round picks)

you could def package a few of those to move up a few spots and posssibly have two lottery picks (our own and the traded for pick) next draft.

So what if we have to sit on cap space for one more year...after that both aldrich and asik are expirings and we would have a lot of cheap rookies with cap space to go sign someone in 2019...which should be the plan.

The Bulls GM should sent a thank you card for saving his career.

Maybe they'd be interested in KOQ, but not Lee

Even though Tim has produced very well, this is why his signing may not be the best thing for us. If we kept the cap space, we could eat Asik's contract for the pick

Knicks never think 2 steps ahead. It's always go head first to "must win RIGHT NOW".

But then y'all turn it into some major catastrophe that will destroy the franchise

It's 30 million in dead cap over 3 years for a late first rounder. It's really not that big of a deal if we miss it. Tim will most likely be better than whoever we would've picked there anyways, and we'd be capped out regardless

Asik's contract is only partially guaranteed in 19-20 . 3mil to be exact

This.

I've said it takes two sides to make a deal and maybe the Pels rightfully believe Mirotic is a better asset/player than Lee and/or KOQ. Plus the Bulls would also be taking back money. They wouldn't just be getting the pick and we don't even know what protections the pick would have.

All the Jazz have to do is offer Derrick Favors and it's game over for the Knicks

I agree completely, but not sure Knicks are thinking that way. They are probably looking at trades that can help them in the short term rather then the long term.

Timmy has a contract that hurts rebuilding teams.

We are not rebuilding though so it’s cool.

Asik has a small partial guarantee for 19-20.

It will not be a late pick. Most likely in the mid teens.

but its no even long term...2019 should be a realistic short term goal.

Anything before then is simply unrealistic and truly shows what has plagued this organization for almost 20 years....no one has the for-site to just wait a year or two...everyone needs instant gratification and we have the wrong people making the decision...just a little patience and we can accumulate some assets.

for once I would like to see them do this...there is about 20 years of history proving the "play" it out strategy DOESN'T WORK!

And the time will come where a game changer might want to join and we won’t have the assets to make it happen.

Don't get me wrong, I'm on board with this if we do it. Taking back a first for 2 years of Asik when we're gonna be capped out regardless is worth it imo

But if we don't, I'm not gonna lose any sleep over it, especially since Mirotic is better than anything we could offer the Pelicans
