My question is why are people so mad?
Are you mad simply because they didnt get anyone?
Are you mad because presumably going after Brunson?
Are you mad because you loved Kemba?
Was their a guy on the board you wanted?
Are you mad because 'only' Brunson was not enough of a needle mover to punt on this draft even though the prospects arguably thinned out after the top 7-8?
I just see all this outrage and for what?
To me it is an incomplete as the moves have to be looked at in full context with the entire offseason plan.
If we do end up with Brunson that makes this a B/B- to me.
If we end up trading for a bonafide star Dejounte Murray (at only 16-17M over next 2 years) AND Brunson this is easily an A for me.
Knicks plan with a vet coach like Thibs could be to compete this year. Their plan last year failed miserably because the back court guys they got couldnt play a like of D and were not great fits regardless. Yes thats on Rose but we didnt sign them to super long term deals.
If the plan is with all these stockpiled picks and some shedding of salary is for Dejounte AND Brunson the line up looks drastically better for next year. You can argue Brunson isnt a superstar but unlike Forunier/Kemba he is a glue player who has a very well balanced game. Hed be the best PG weve had since I dont know when.
Now Dejounte would be a perfect complement for a Thibs team as he can play both point or shooting guard and defends excellent too.
Randle could look like a much different player with a true point guard setting up the offense. Yes he sucked last year but he is a 20 pt/game player that could easily bounceback and look more like 2020 Randle (and he is on a very reasonable contract).
Brunson
Murray
RJ
Randle
Mitch
All entering 4 years of NBA experience or more but still all in their beginning of their prime years. All have the ability to play D at an average or better level. 3 ball a bit weak but the bench can make up for that.
Three off seasons of treading water in mediocrity and punting picks down the road while they cap out with the likes of Randle, Fournier and soon RJ, not to mention the collection of 30 something sucktastic vets they have, who if the DO move them, will require the use of "assets" they are stockpiling - which is EXACTLY what happened to move Zombie Kemba off the team, and you are "good with this" ?
Really?
We'll just have to wait for 2025 for "the plan to all come together"?
Yeah, no.
This FO sucks donkey d*ck.
There might be a couple of good guys doing technician work since the clearly aren't part of the "vision", but whoever is driving the path and doing the major advising, and I figure that's Thibs/Perry/WWW talking to Rose, then yeah, those guy's suck.
Imagine how much more they'll suck when Aller packs his bags in disgust, which has got to be happening any moment now.
Not OK if it amounts to nothing in FA but the offseason is not just about the draft only. It has to be in context with next years vision. Maybe they want to compete this year. If so and they pull of Brunson AND a star then in its full context it is a much better offseason than we thought. Point is, we can't get out the pitchforks just yet without seeing the entire plan here and if they can successfully execute on it.
