Yes, trading Mikal, Hart, and Robinson for a 36 year old KD math wise works...but it would be comically bad for the Knicks.

Durant is shooting 43% from 3 on 6 attempts per game. Folks really think removing Brickalikina Burks and Josh too scared to shoot Hart and replacing it would Durant would make us worse lmao

No it wouldn’t. What’s comically bad is trading 5 firsts for Mikal and we are now stuck with this team and very little opportunities to improve. KD raises our ceiling although it does create a smaller window but I’m not sure what other ways we can maximize the potential of this current core without tearing it all the way down and starting over.

You think this team is better than a team with Brunson, KAT, OG and Durant?

:noway:

We are already a top offensive team and you think trading Mikal, Hart, and Mitch 3 of the teams best defenders (outside of OG) and all that rebounding and minutes they eat up (durability). Is a good decision for another ISO scorer when we have Brunson and KAT that can already score? And we already have a depth issue and making a 3 for 1 trade destroys our depth (which you constantly complain about).

On top of that KD is 36 and hasn't had a healthy season since 2019. He's basically played over 60 games once in the last 6 years.

its got to be trolling at this point.

Complain about the depth...now lets make a 3 for 1 trade.

two being iron men and one our only interior presence. For a oft injured (still good scoring) soon to be 37 year old wing with one more year left on his deal?

This is craziness.

We are awful against any teams that can defend. Unless you are just happy with beating mediocre and bad teams then that’s fine. Anything more than that will require a major trade. Not sure what else could be expected with those three pieces, nobody is going to trade anybody more significant than KD for Mikal, Hart and Robinson. I’m not sure Suns would even do that. But at some point we will have to take another risk and that will involve breaking up this current core but there’s just no way to get anybody better without draft picks that we already traded away. So the best we will be able to do is an aging star or reshuffling of better fitting role players and hoping that can work out better.

I was worried about this team possibly becoming the Phoenix Suns after last off-season's moves. They already did the trading all your picks and acquiring another player on a huge contract part. I hope they are not accelerating to the complete desperation part of the timeline. I'm open to moving on from KAT and wouldn't mind breaking his contract up into multiple pieces just not a fan of adding a 37 year old KD.

One of the few benefits I could see if they traded for KD is that it could potentially open up a ton of cap space in 2026 if they want to pivot from this current core.

we have two of the best offensive players in the sport...I agree we shouldn't struggle vs the best teams so badly.

He may still be good but not great, and there’s clearly a noticeable decline. Not to mention a decline in games played at his older age. Father Time is a sob that sneaks up out of nowhere too.

You know if we trade for him at 37 years old, dude will age rapidly overnight. I fear it’ll be a Philly/PG situation especially with him wanting a max extension. It could be another one in the long list of has beens or past their prime players the Knicks finally get: DRose, T-Mac, Noah, Amare, Baron, Bibby, Marbury, etc etc etc

Durant is 4 years younger than Lebron. There is no rational reason why he can't be pretty darn good the next 4 years too. Even for NBA standards the level of athleticism on a 6'11 frame is so unique that even at the age of 36/37 he is above average in terms of movement, fluidity etc.

I hope I'm wrong, but I think after the upcoming playoffs this discussion will be over anyways. Then 99% of knick fans would be down for this trade. JB and KD would be absolutely lethal and KD has the added benefit that he is still solid defensively and you can switch and everything without losing much. Hiding JB and KAT on defense against the Celtics will be impossible and I think we will soon see those results unfortunately.

If you can get KD for KAT you do it. You give KD a 2-3 extension and then have the guys go for a 4 year run. After that everyone is off the books and you can re-evaluate or pivot. Again:

JB-Bridges-OG-KD-Mitch >>>>>>>> JB-Hart-Bridges-OG-KAT

and it is not even close.

Would you trust KAT in a playoff series against the Celtics, OKC or Cavs more or KD? IMO KD 24/7 any day of the week. I'll give you some splits:

KAT in those 7 games against the top 3 teams has taken 15 three pointers---overall! These teams seem to be able to easily take away the 3 point shot from KAT, already limiting his effectiveness. KAT has averaged 17 points in those 7 games.

Durant has averaged 32points on 62% shooting and 55% from 3 against Boston and Cleveland in 3 games, shooting 5 3s a game. Last year he averaged 33points on 60%+ shooting against Cleveland and Boston in 4 games. He completely shreds those teams. He also got 25points per game against OKC in 3 games.

If the money is on the line I take KD over KAT, even at the age of 37.

2 years ago KD was 1cm away from taking the Nets to the finals and winning a ship. Had Kyrie stayed healthy the Nets would be rocking a title right now. I know, uncomfortable truths, but it is what it is.

If the Suns are down for KD for KAT you do it.

The Suns are a great example of what happens when you chase names without concern for depth or fit

They're the modern version of the 00s Knicks.

If all it takes is KAT and Dadiet to get KD, and KD gets hurt, you might still have enough to contend with a healthy Jalen, Josh, Mikal, OG, and defensive minded centers

Return to New York Knicks
