He doesn't have Amare's athleticism or physical strength at the same age. Amare was a monster physically even when he was just a junior in HS in FL. By the time the HS senior circuit started, Amare was basically a man among boys (and that was against the other HS elites). Same when he made his entry in the NBA (Amare was one of the most intimidating physical specimens as a rookie). I've been a follower of the HS showcase circuits for some time and I still remember Amare as the most impressive physical player I've ever seen at a showcase game.

Toppin does have nice length, he has solid verticals, he's aggressive and has a good feel for where he needs to be (especially on the offensive end). He definitely can be looked at as a floor spacer type that can do a little bit of damage if you try to close him out on the perimeter. This is what you want from your bigs. But he's not near Amare level in terms of athleticism, explosiveness and sheer physical dominance.

His shooting? You know, yes, the percentages are great in college but he has a slow and low release. I think it'll be fine as a role playing stretch 4 but not if the plan is to feature him. In other words not for someone that will be looking to take 5-6 3's a game in the NBA...more like 2-3 3's per game.

I think he can do real well on a team where there is a defined system and where players who do what they are supposed to do are rewarded with minutes and touches. Toronto, San Antonio, Dallas, Indy, etc. On a team like the Knicks? Yeah, no. He may be able to get some shots and I'm sure he'll get a lot of positive fan feedback but he's not a big enough needle mover for a team that is bottom of the barrel to use a top lottery pick on...if that's what you were thinking.

His upside is a high end role player IMO, not a star.

Amare was 19 as a HS senior though. He was older than most people he played against. Still a manlet though.

Sure, but he was just a man child. The other top HS players looked like kids physically when compare to him. Still remember Amare screaming at his teammates when they didn't play hard or blew an assignment lol at a game that was basically a meaningless talent showcase.

Edwards game from two nights ago. He's got 3 or 4 nice half court drives to the hoop using eurosteps to dodge defenders. I like this kid a lot, he looks like a great athlete with a decent jumper. I wonder how much of his inefficiency stems from him not playing with any other elite players.

His inefficiency stems from:

1. He doesn't use his athleticism to finish nearly as much as he should. He uses it to get to the rim then tries to finesse the finish or attempt to get a foul. Rarely does he seem to want to go through someone and get the and 1.

2. His shot selection is bad and his jumper is weak.

He's actually very similar to RJ when it comes to those things but unlike RJ he has a lot of ups so while it makes sense for RJ to finish using his craftiness and base to stay low and powerful (ala Kawhi/young Melo/Jabari pre-injury) it makes no sense for Edwards to do the same.

Do you think he tries to finesse his finishes because he's soft? Or that he hasn't figured out how to explode into his finishes? Just basing off highlights I've seen, I do think he's driving more than he did at the beginning of the season.

Not soft, some guys don't know how to use their athleticism and you gotta hope they learn or they'll end up like Wiggins or Gerald Green.

If we don't get LaMelo I'm beginning to lean towards Killian Hayes as the #2 guy I'd like the Knicks to take. Edwards 3rd.

If we do fall to 4-6 range I hope Hayes is still on the board

I think the biggest reason why everyone is shying away from him on here is the French/Frank/PG connection. I kinda get it to cause i'm a pretty superstitious person when it comes to sports but Hayes does look like the real deal and much more ready then Frank was when we drafted him and a different type of player than Frank as well.

You also need to hope Mills and Perry have the sack to draft him in the lottery even if it's at the 4-6 range.

I just hope that if Dolan decides to fire Pills, that he does it before the draft so the new management can draft their player, unlike what we did with Phil/Frank.

That's why I was skeptical too but he's got game

Also I don't think they have the sack.

Just draft Lamelo and call it a day.

Only one of these cats that looks like he can handle the NY spotlight. I’m tired of drafting p*ssies. Our most composed rookie has been RJ who has been around basketball all his life. Melo has that same mentality.

He'll only be our pick because we have a thing for drafting lotto picks that can't shoot 40% from the field.

Breakdown on scouts and wasserman think of this years top prospects. Basically high on LaMelo and Hayes. Low on pretty much everyone else. Surprised that he thinks Wiseman is 7-10 picks in the draft.

watching halliburton live for the first time. he doesnt have the ball handling to break down defenses. seems to pick up his dribble a lot. small sample size though.

Not watching super close but Halliburton looks like Ntilikina who is efficient on offense, though not as good on defense. i dont think that is enough. Likes to play off ball a lot too
