We got away with a lot of bad missed shots, poor offensive execution, bad overall shooting days, falling asleep on defense play.
Duran had two important jump balls where he punted it out of bounds. Celtics are not sloppy. We screw up, they score 3. We shoot 25% from 3, we lose by 25.

It was also sadly more surprising than JB’s game winner. We’ve come to expect the latter.

Windy: I'm watching this game and I'm like I just don't know what the Knicks are doing, it's just Jalen Brunson dribbling around and trying to find a crack against Ausar Thompson, and I'm like this is NO WAY to play basketball
4:50
Windy: he had 40 pts on 33 shots, it was tough to watch, there were some possessions where you're just like you know you've got KAT on the team, OG, Mikal... but it was just Brunson straight iso-ing
---
JB ball hog isos need to go. It might have worked in 1st round and I really think we wouldn't have needed that 3 in the first place had we not dug a hole with JB isoing the rest of the game, but he needs to share the wealth if we are to have any chance vs Celtics/ any success overall in the playoffs moving forward

Blame the offensive scheme. It’s designed for players who can iso score to iso score and he is basically the best iso scorer on the roster by a large margin. If Randle, RJ, or DDV was still here he wouldn’t be as ball dominate.

Because he can't. Josh picks up the ball whenever he sees bodies. He's a willing open court handler. He isn't a breakdown guy although they should try him handlingvin the pick and roll.Big FatKAT wrote:considering hart gets covered by a c or pf I do not get why he’s not bringing the ball up, surely he can beat them off of the dribbleprophet_of_rage wrote:This is going to be a curb stomping. The difference his Pistons have two non-shooters and they still hurt us at times with the 3 ball which the Celtics usually play lineups with 5 shooters.
They are going to spam P&R with bringing Brunson and KAT into the action and Cade isn't a great shooter so OG had time to recover...but Tatum is a much better shooter so don't think the way we defended the P&R vs the pistons will apply to Celtics.
Orlando tried to slow it down with defence and failed. And we are worse defenders than them. And playing fast just leads to a 3 point contest.
Everyone will blame Thibs but this is just a mismatch in every way.

I guess you believe fat meat isn't greasy. Brunson is not equal in talent to Tatum. You aren't even going by the match ups.cgmw wrote:prophet_of_rage wrote:This is going to be a curb stomping. Is it though?
Brunson = Tatum
KAT > Brown
Mikal = KP
OG = Jrue
Hart = White
Deuce = Pritchard
Mitch > Horford
Talent seems pretty level here except they have better coaching and chemistry. Thibs is one of the regular season coaching GOATs but there’s a reason he’s lost in the playoffs over and over and over and over and over and over again.

You are assuming the talent is the same (it isn't) and the Boston talent is more cohesive. Payne can only shoot. So can Shamet. So can Deuce. And they are all small defensively.cgmw wrote::noway:HopelessKnick wrote:cgmw wrote:Is it though?

Nah bro you comparisons are somewhat off. The thing is, does it even make sense to compare matchup wise? Sure Brunson at this point for example is better than Holiday but their roles are completely different.
Brunson > Holiday
Hart < White
Bridges <<< Brown
OG << Tatum
KAT > Porzingis
Celtics bench >>>> Knick bench
Mazulla >>> Thibs
Now I'll give you one concession though...a lot of these comparisons depend on recent memory and recent games...the Knicks looked terrible against elite teams so that is probably going to figure in right now. Things can change. But really this last series didn't help boosting confidence IMO.
My comment was about roster talent, not matchups. Mizzoula and Thibs are working with similar amounts of overall talent, yet likely series outcome is C’s gentleman’s sweep. What’s that tell you about coaching?

What we all hopefully know by now....Thibs ain't nowhere near an elite coach. Thankfully JB and the guys were talented enough to spare us the embarassment of a first round exit, despite Thibs' coaching.

I agree, the rivalry with the Heat was a lot more intense for sure. Detroit is a young team which played a factor and they played the Knicks tough but they're not on the same tier as the Knicks this season. Knicks-Heat was a rivalry that went on multiple postseasons and had actual brawls and so a series ending buzzer beater was well worth it.
This Brunson game winner is definitely there with the Knicks fans memories though.

I'm not a Windy fan either, but he's right though. This is no way to play basketball. The ball doesn't move and everyone stands around watching.
Leon traded literally everything the team had to have these guys stand around and watch Brunson pound the air out of the ball. It's not sustainable and it's definitely not going to remotely work against Boston.

I agreed with your matchup analysis. Doesn’t change a damn thing about what I said.
Look at the contracts — our top 7 are, on paper, individually as good or nearly as good as theirs. Yet (and here’s the part where I agree with you) they are massive favorites, and deservedly so.
IMO this comes down to Thibs being one of the absolute GOAT *Regular Season* coaches but also having the most limited upside come playoffs. You can’t make deep playoff runs relying on a high-usage, high-contact, high-minutes, low-rotation grind.
Idk how many more seasons he lasts giving Dolan what he wanted 4 years ago — respectability and playoff berths. The expectation now is ECF/NBA Finals and it doesn’t look like we’re gonna get there.
To maximize the potential of this group, you need cohesive team ball that gets everybody involved and you need an energetic bench that actually contributes. Our bench talent isn’t the best, but it’s also not as bad as Thibs has made them look. Why? Because he demands high-usage iso from a group that by definition doesn’t have the talent to effectively play that style.
"Sell the team. Sell the team. Sell the team."
