Barrett dropped the z bomb

I feel like it’s gonna work well. You’ve seen me play next to [that type of player] and how it worked well with Mitch (Robinson), worked well with Zion (Williamson) in the past. He (Toppin) is very versatile. He can pick and roll, pick and pop, you can put him on the deck, he can shoot it. I’m excited to have him. He gives us another dimension,” Barrett said on his zoom call with reporters on Monday.

He did a good job against Georgia finding spots to exploit the defense from 10-15 when they cut off the lane but the shot/form is flailing/sloppy. He needs to hone that for the NBA to be a star.

Great points about that and agree completely. Developing and working on his midrange game will be a key (along with his outside shot). He has the skills/potential to do that. Even when you look at his shot chart most of his attempts were from in the paint or 3. Having that mid range game can open things up more

His agility coming off the cone is abit lacking to play SF IMO. Like his natural movements are more in line with a pf than a sf

Check out his passing/vision at 5:16. This scout actually think that'll be one of his best attributes in the next level. He's the anti-Randle

Thibs Bulls teams were filled with multiple players who made reads and passes and were active cutters.
Obi's talent AND those attributes made him the Knicks pick when he "fell" to them.

Sup.
As far as conditioning I'd say he can. The question is how good RJ wants to get and prove some wrong regarding his progress.

Today I was reading about Frank and his vast 2nd half improvements and it mentioned how RJ's number went up in parrallel. They flourish together and should play alongside eachother IMO.

If RJ's working with Johnnie Bryant gets him to another level, then yes RJ will learn how to make that pullup from the line..

So I'm with you on that.
My question to you is, are you starting to get hyped about seeing Obi's athletism?

Yes, but in certain lineups Randle, Mitch and Obi will be playing together on the court. Thibs will match the defensive scheme acoordingly.

Offensively, very few 3s can stay up with Obi's size and athleticism.

The scout seemed to imply that Obi would is a 5  .

Obviously Obi's advance reads were undervalued by alot of scouts even at the pro level. Look at Donovan Mitchell's fall in the draft as an example of scouts not noticing other advance attributes.

I actually just looked at that the other day about Frank. In 2020, he averaged 8 ppg 3 apg and shot something like 43fg%. He played like 26 games too, so it's a pretty large sample size. If that's the real Frank, I don't see why he wouldn't just win the PG job.

Bryant is apparently the guy that developed Gordon Hayward and I think him and RJ are very similar players. So he's probably the perfect guy for RJ to learn from. I wouldn't be shocked if he's much better player by the end of the year cuz of Bryant being in his ear all that extra time.

I'm anxious about Toppin cuz of his defense. I've been scarred by watching Knox and DSJ playing defense the past couples years and I keep worrying he's going to be just as bad as them. He seems like such a high IQ player that I hope that with being taught better techniques he'll at least be passable on that end. I kinda hope he can turn into what the old Blake Griffin turned into but with more athleticism and not injury prone. I'd love to see him be able to grab and go on the break.

TBF if Obi becomes a star offensively, it wouldn't exactly be a shock if he did so as a(n Amar'e-esque) smallball 5, while surrounded by 4 + perimeter defenders who could all run PnRs to him. Can't imagine the defense would be anything but a weakness, but I could see the offense being so lethal that you take that and hope you can slow opposing stars down enough on the perimeter.

Hypothetically something like:

Cade/Suggs
Frank/Quickley
RJ
JJohnson/Barnes
Obi

It might not win a chip, but that would be fun as hell to watch for a few years, then pull off a trade that maybe puts it over the top

I don't really get the guy's video entirely for this reason: Obi is thin but that's now. Not everyone comes in like Zion. He's not gonna bully people inside no. But that's now.
