Polling organization YouGov tweeted Friday that Johnson saw a second small increase in his already rising personal approval rating, from 54% to 60%, specifically following his hospitalization. However, this was not the case for his government, which had already seen a surge in support four days before his positive test, YouGov said. Johnson's personal approval rating had tumbled to 35% as of September 28, according to YouGov polling.

In August, a month after his own positive test, Bolsonaro saw the highest approval rate for his government since the beginning of its term in January 2019, according to a survey from Datafolha, Brazil's largest opinion polling institute.

The poll indicated that 37% of Brazilians considered Bolsonaro's government "good or excellent" in August, up 5% from the previous survey in July.

Looks like leaders get a sympathy bump. Was that why he told Meadows to "leak" what he did? I guess we'll know the answer if Meadows stays on or is fired.

He's willingly putting people at risk for photo ops. He's willingly ignored all warning signs of how dangerous this virus has been. And he's willingly finding ways to convince 40% of this country that after everything we've witnessed, he still thinks he's the best person to lead the nation.

This is the exactly the reason why you can’t trust Trump to deal with covid, he was incapable of keeping himself, his family and staff safe. Yeah, the thing is Trump is essentially devoid of even strategy, much less concern for anybody's well being which we know is a non-existent consideration.

He will always spread this contagion in every single thing he does, because (a) he's too stupid not to always compulsively surrender to his primary impulse which is (b) to seek the adulation of his MAGA cheerleaders.

For that reason, Trump continued to hold rallies where the contagion was spread and today he subjects his protectors to his contagion by going for a joy ride. All because his only metric for whether or not he is doing well is whether or not he is in the presence of a mob of MAGA sycophants cheering for him.

That's it. This pandemic was super-charged by this man's bottomless vanity. He has no other thoughts in his head other than how to get his next dopamine hit by having his ego stroked. Concerns about the virus will never replace that core impulse and desire.
