Re: PG: Knicks-Hawks aka 1,2,3,Cancun! (Hawks win series 4-1)
I'm disappointed but not mad. NYK just got the draw of a team that's a little further along in the process than they are and they got beat.
I've been wondering all series if things would be a little different right now if we got Miami instead.
Now it's time for the front office to get to work and plug some holes. I'm interested in seeing Vildoza with the youngsters next season, and who gets let go and who gets brought in.
And I'm happy that Randle, RJ, IQ and Obi got their first playoff experience. Sure, it's not a good memory right now, but hopefully they'll take that L and use it to motivate themselves to get better.
How many days till training camp?

I pointed out all season that we play teams without their best players every **** single game. now we didn't.

the thing you can most blame thibs for is overachieving during the regular season and making it seem like the team was better than it really was.
Yea, I can't blame Thibs for that. No adjustment could have made up for most of our main guys underperforming as they did.
I'm not blaming him...but he wasn't good either. Bullock had zero chance to guard Trae but he refused to adjust. I think only 15 and 13 mins a game for IQ and Toppin in the series was criminal...considering you got nothing from Noel/Burks(outside of game 1) and Bullock. There were minutes to give them.
To not even try your best perimeter defender on Trae all series outside of one possession in game 1 is criminal as well.
Then to not go at Trae Young at any point in the series was very uncreative.
Thibs stubbornness came back to bite us...yes Randle and RJ playing better could have helped us more...but that alone wouldn't have won this series...we were seriously outclassed in every phase.

The "Thibs doesn't play rookies" storyline has been buried.
I will disagree on Quickley. He should have gotten more minutes then he did. It hurt us because we could have used more offense and Rose wore down.
We still overachieved and credit to Thibs for that.
and even though he scored more, julius might have played his worst game last night. he tried to get over being shook by forcing things and it was nothing but bad shots and turnovers.
Yea, he was horrible all series. The turnovers were very costly...he could barely make basic passes. Then was out of control emotionally. It was bad.

Ok , Ro you are 1 of my favorite realgms on this board but I think you got the vuc trade wrong.
At the time of the trade vuc was averaging more points and Rebs than AD.
As someone who follows the bulls as well, it was a clear home run despite it not translating to wins.
WCJ and 2 1sts was below market value for a current all star. The bulls were in the playin at the time of the trade so their pick was kind of a wash at the time. They sucked down the stretch and it was on their coach bad rotations, sato had a worse effect on winning the Payton did for the knicks.
It was a win-now trade which was supposed to propel them from the play-in zone into the playoffs so it would appease Zach Lavine and not only did it not do that but they had an even worse win percentage after the trade? Something just doesn't add up there. Now they are possibly going to lose out on a valuable 8th pick, which they probably assumed would be a mid-1st rounder when they made the trade. Seems like a home run for Orlando to me. They sent the 2023 first, wendell carter and otto porter as well! I could see taking a wait and see approach but seeing as how they didn't get their intended result and were actually worse after the trade I'm not sure how you can call it a home run for the bulls. Vucevic is already about to turn 31 and hit the downside of his career.
It was a win now move to the untrained eye. like the knicks the bulls needed a pointguard to win.
vuc was more about solidifying the roster and yes they gave up otto porter too who was an expiring coming off the bench at 20M + salary. WCJ was also off the bench, neither were guys who seemed to be in the picture long term and they consolidated for talent.
it being a bad trade is ALL hindsight considering their results after the trade.
At the time of the trade it was widely regarded as huge move.
What doesnt add up is that they benched cobe for no apparent reason and they played their worst stretch of the season.
The bulls should have been better after the trade. They got Vuc and Theis from Boston. Their pointguard play killed them.
Ok a potential 8th pick is valuable but the consolation prize is a legit nba allstar. Its hard to have buyers remorse on that.
For an 8th pick which is deemed the most valuable part of the trade, vuc is arguably the best player in the trade and 1 of the few teams in the conference with 2 current allstars.
the stupid Hocks have Zero. The Bulls gave themselves a competitve advantage and the coached gaffed it. If the Bulls get their act together they can be a problem.
Meaning the knicks might got to to deal with that at some point. Zach and Vuc are arguably better than the knicks top 2 guys, so what im trying to say its far from stupid. Maybe it wasnt homerun now, at the time i thought it was a clear homerun.

I think Randle was simply exhausted from the grind of the season and all the responsibilities he shouldered all year. It finally caught up to him that one week off before the playoffs start and he never really recovered.

We haven't been to the post season in so long you forget how intense and keyed in teams are. If you don't have counters to a team taking away you go to move you will get exposed. Randle had zero answer all series and its concerning because the man had a dream type regular season and still was completely neutralized in the post season. So that has to be in the back of our minds in building this team going forward. To just write it off as a bad series would be silly. He was completely taken out of the whole series and mentally was taken out.
I had no problem losing the series...but I wanted to leave this series with some confidence we have some pieces (not just for the regular season) but for the post season...I'm not sure I'm confident in anyone

Possibly true - and this all points to Thibs' shortcomings as a coach. He is one tight-a$$ed mofo. It is likely the reason why his teams routinely overachieve in the regular but come crashing down to earth in the playoffs. He will only be able to take this roster so far.

the only guys you can be confident in is derrick rose and taj and they're too old to care about.
iq and obi had some moments here and there and they're rookies so they get passes. everybody else....i'm highly disgusted

True, the minutes are too much and Thibs needs to do a better job of managing that.
But really, I can't blame that bad of performance on too many minutes. Respect to Randle for carrying us all season and shouldering the load. Hopefully he can learn from this experience...and Obi looks like he should be at the very least a good backup where Randle should not be playing this many minutes next season

Its not worth discussing because you know they wont. They all seemed pretty happy with themselves after the game that they were building something. And this was just the start of something...
You even got Bullock talking about "we" will be ready next year...like my guy you were trash and a FA...we?????
