To be honest Brunson's body type and skill set reminds me more of Chris Paul....don't know if he can ever reach his level but a poor man's version is better than most PGs.
Too bad his game isn’t Chris Paul.
If he can get to prime Kyle Lowry level impact that’ll be more than fine and make this signing all the more worth it. In fact Lowry is probably the most realistic comp in terms of overall impact for Brunson and what would be considered an excellent signing. Lots of similarities in terms of build (mini bull dogs), competitiveness (both guys go at it) and big shot ability (signs that they aren’t phased by pressure which will be critical for Brunson in NY). And like Brunson it took Lowry a bit of time to get traction in the NBA (Lowry didn’t really have his coming out season until he was 26).
That said, just as with Lowry, he cannot do it by himself as he’s not that top tier level type guy. He’ll need help and let’s hope our FO can do something that no Knick FO has been able to do for at least 25 years now (that is build a consistent winner).
Brunson reminds me on Conley in his prime but stronger offensively but not as good defensively. Both excel at getting to their spots on the floor. Both play left handed, both are on the smaller side for PG, and when you watch them they play the same using a combination of outside shooting, floaters, and great footwork to get buckets. I am hoping Brunson has Conley’s other traits of being efficient and being a reliable scorer.
