I personally think Mike Malone is a better coach and the clear choice if you don't want to go the Johnnie Bryant route.
I think Kidd having coached Brunson before, having played and coached here (NJ) and having success as a coach (WCF) gives him an edge over Malone in Leon's eyes. Plus the falling out between Malone and the Denver front office might scare Leon since it seems he just went through the same thing with Thibs. Not that Leon is seeking a yes man but I think he wants a coach who will take feedback and collaborate more easily. Both Thibs and Malone seem like they are old school my way or the high way type.
Yeah there is the Brunson connection. Looking back it was only for 1 season but he did get his biggest opportunity to that point in his career. I don't necessarily see Kidd as being that adaptable to "feedback" though. He's considered one of the best on court decision makers of all time as a player so it still feels like "my way or the highway" with him. Just seems like a lateral move to me, I don't know.
