I never knew this to be a thing that our coach search would take away from the Finals...

Everything to do with our stature as a big market??

I mean if the Kings or Wizards have a coaching hire in the middle of the Finals, noone would think it's "taking away" from the Finals

I like Kidd, I think he's elevated his coaching significantly in Dallas vs his previous 2 stops in Milwaukee and Brooklyn... like someone said for his team to beat the dominant KAT-Ant Wolves last year was maybe the biggest achievement in his coaching career

But I hope we hire Bryant, I think he's gonna be better than Kidd...

I think Kidd would have a lot of pressure, for a big market team looking to improve on its ECF appearance and it believes in someone so much it wants to pry him out of his current job/ break the contract to do it... says a lot about the team's already massive expectations of him

At least Bryant hire would not require him getting out of his current contract

Viewership for this year's "small-market" finals is so awfully bad (down 29% from just last year) that it's likely the league asked all parties involved to hold off on non-finals news until after it's over. For as much as sports news is already talking about the next KNICKS coach, an actual hire during the finals could potentially kill the little remaining interest anyone has in the OKC/Indy matchup.

I don't know where the belief is coming from that the Knicks don't have backup plans.

i'm sure they have a list of other people if this doesn't happen but this is clearly the plan. they're talking to nobody else currently.

How do we know who they are or aren't talking to or what their plan is??

Until it comes from the organization itself, everything we hear is pure speculation and not yet factual.

If Silver wants better ratings he also shouldn't reward teams like Dallas and San Antonio with #1 draft picks so often.

Woody was ahead of his time. A true visionary. A knicks legend who doesnt get enough love. He would have kat out there shooting 3s until he needed Tommy John surgery or until he saw him play defense and give him the classic

Amid widespread speculation that Dallas Mavericks coach Jason Kidd could force his way out to join the New York Knicks, there are strong signs that the 52-year-old Hall of Famer will stay put.

As The Athletic reported, the Knicks have serious interest in hiring Kidd — who has two seasons left on his contract — after they shockingly fired Tom Thibodeau last week. Yet according to team and league sources, the Mavericks continue to privately insist to key stakeholders that Kidd won’t be going anywhere. According to a team source, the Knicks had yet to request permission to speak with Kidd as of Tuesday afternoon.

Kidd has been present at the Mavericks’ practice facility this past week as they’ve held workouts and has functioned in a business-as-usual capacity. What’s more, the negotiations with former Toronto Raptors and Phoenix Suns head coach Jay Triano for a lead assistant-coaching position with the Mavericks have been revealing when it comes to Kidd.

According to a league source, Mavericks general manager Nico Harrison made it clear to Triano during the process that Kidd would remain the head coach. Triano, the league source said, agreed to terms on the assistant position on Tuesday. NBA reporter Jake Fischer was first to report on the Mavericks’ interest in Triano.
