Yup this has to be done before the deadline, Amare cant keep playing all these minutes. Also gives everyone time to get used to playing with Melo and Amare, time to build chemistry. If you do it midseason you have time to figure that out now, if you do it on the summer maybe you start off next season slowly.
Would be great if we got Melo, fired D'antoni and worked with a new coach.(this last part seems unlikely, hes gonna stay coach at least until the end of this season)

I don't view Felton or Melo as highly as you do, but regardless, I don't see the move giving us a championship ring, or allowing us to get one any time in the near future. That is why I'm against it. It defines who our team is and will be for some time aside from the addition of some role players. I just don't think it is worth committing to a future of mediocrity, nor will I ever.
What it comes down to I guess is whether we value Melo as the straw that broke the camel's back. Some see him as putting us over the edge. Me, well, not so much.
We'll just have to wait and see I guess.
Well that's kind of a mis-characterization of my position, Melo does not lead us to the promised land alone, and I never suggested he did.
I'm saying a Melo/Amare/Felton core to build around for a championship team, is worth the gamble of losing him or waiting for 2012
Apologies then. Was more making a blanket statement against the "get him now" crowd.
My problem with your position ends up being I do not see how we're going to be able to build around that core without assets to trade. (I also don't think Felton is that great, tbh. We need a playmaker if we're to have those two)
while im not quite as down on felton yet... your larger point still holds true... there seems to be this assumption that well be able to build around a core without holding on to some assets... which is frankly not grounded in reality... yes.. there is a chance that some ring chasers may find their way onto our roster... but these guys are usually not difference makers at the point in time in their career when they start ring chasing... more complementary guys...
itll be interesting to follow miami as a case study... a team with 3 of its 5 starting positions locked in... a solid role player in miller.. but not too much more... will they be able to add the pieces they need to compete for a title or not... but as it stands now... they cant match the depth of a team like boston in the regular season... let alone a playoff series... there is talk of how this is a superstars league... well thats true... but its also a league of depth... you look at teams that won recently... and they not only have great 1-2 punches with their superstars... they also have had deep benches with guys playing key roles off of it...

The last update came on Camelo Thread Part 15, about the Chandler/Brewer/1st offer. That's almost 150 pages of pointless debate and speculation and random incarcerated bob tweets over the weekend.

Who cares if you start next season slowly? Playoff seeding isn't that important in the NBA and if anything Mike's shown a capacity for getting guys to gel pretty quickly. I think our young players would gain a lot more out of a bigger role in a playoff run without melo this season than a longer run with him, although that's certainly debateable, so I don't agree that we need to make a run this season, just getting back to the playoffs, putting out a hard fought series by the kids is a huge first step since players often improve dramatically after their first experience of playoff ball.

Yep. If the feeling is that Denver isn't really serious about moving Melo then they should be making other moves to increase their chance that Melo would reconsider. They've not done any of that.
They don't have the assets to acquire a player who will convince Melo to stay. Unless they can get Chris Paul, Deron Williams, etc. I doubt it would make Melo reconsider.
Their best card is the money (the extension), not the talent. They would be stupid to make trades to convince Melo to resign and end up being stuck with bad contracts (like the Cavs with Jamison last year). The Nuggets don't have any reason to make a trade (or spend) before Melo signs on the dotted line. That's why they didn't offer an extension to Nene yet. If Melo stays they remain competitive, if he leaves (via trade or free agency) then they rebuild. Two totally different situations. That's why they won't make a move before Melo's situation is resolved.

Agreed I think it's a great theory but I think Minny is being overlooked in this whole thing we all know Kahn and Walsh are good friends but i think they are the perfect trade partners for us with or without melo they can get us a 1st round pick or a young pg in telfair or flynn, who they might be trading, and they can take on money without giving it out since they are under the cap they i think they are being overlooked and how important they can be to get this deal done.
Correct. MIN won't have much cap space available this summer, so if DEN wanted summer cap space:
1. DEN-MIN could fo the Telfair + UTA 1st for expiring deal from three weeks ago. Telfair provides a competant back-up PG for the rest of the year to help in the play--offs, but most importantly, he expires and turns Randolph into more cap space. UTA 1st (now 19 .. 1.5 games from falling to next year by missing lottery protections) is probably worth more than it used to be.
2. Look for another team this summer that will value Randolph enough to give you a late 1st and cap space for him.

Here. Some new news.
Or maybe not.
Here. Some new news.
With 10 days to go before the trade deadline, the Nuggets continue to explore trade scenarios for Carmelo Anthony while also pursuing a strategy that would result in the three-time All-Star remaining in Denver for the rest of the season, league sources told CBSSports.com.
Nuggets officials are said to have been encouraged by Anthony's recent statement that he will "take a hard look" at re-signing with Denver if he isn't traded before the Feb. 24 deadline. That represents D-Day not only for the Nuggets, but also for Anthony, who sources say also is beginning to feel the pressure of the decision that has been weighing on him for months.
"Carmelo is feeling the heat, too," said a person connected to the Anthony talks.
The Nuggets and Nets have not had any direct contact since Prokhorov pulled the plug, sources told CBSSports.com. According to one source, Denver officials "are not counting on" New Jersey re-entering the talks.
As CBSSports.com reported Jan. 26, Nuggets officials have dropped their opposition to including Knicks big man Anthony Randolph in a Melo deal and have come to view the 21-year-old as a player who could flourish if given an opportunity to play. The possible inclusion of Randolph in a trade that would send Anthony to New York is the only reason Randolph hasn't already been traded to Minnesota for a late first-round pick. Outside of a three-way Anthony framework, Minnesota would take on Roger Mason ($1.4 million) and waive him as part of a one-on-one deal with the Knicks. That deal is on hold until New York and Denver decide whether they're doing business or not, according to a source.
Or maybe not.

Re: [Camelo Thread Part 17] - Yo Melo, Whas Good Son!
thought this was also important
what do you make of all this?
Why would we be adding Roger Mason jr to the Twolves deal
Against this complicated backdrop, sources say the Nuggets and Knicks have continued to discuss trade proposals -- as they were even before Nets owner Mikhail Prokhorov pulled his team out of the talks Jan. 19. Those talks between Denver and New York are expected to become "more extensive" during the upcoming All-Star weekend in Los Angeles, when executives will have a chance to meet face to face, according to a person familiar with the dialogue between the teams.
Madison Square Garden chairman James Dolan and Stan Kroenke of the Nuggets, both members of the owners' labor relations board, also will have a chance to meet face-to-face in Los Angeles as part of the scheduled collective bargaining session. Dolan and Kroenke have spoken directly in the past about a possible Anthony trade.

Or maybe not.
Paints a picture like it's down to the Knicks or keeping him, and the stuff about Denver liking Randolph is encouraging.
Who knows. If Melo is soft, then Denver can try to get him to cave. Otherwise they could go from getting $0.50 on the dollar for him to $0.05 on the dollar for him. The Knicks won't be able to offer them much after next week.
So it will come down to whether Melo is scared into taking his money or not.
Is there a CBA discussion scheduled for All-Star Weekend?

Could be Ridnour as Ridnour is the higher salary. Telfair makes close to AR's salary, where we'd only need to add in an extra $120k in salary (ie. Rautins throw-in)
If we were to include Ridnour, we'd need to add $1.4M in salary to AR's...which just so happens to be what Mason is making.
Edit - could also be Corey Brewer.

As down as I am on AR, he is still most likely a better prospect then what ever Denver will net with any pick they get for next year.
