I'm not crazy high on him, but I take him over Morant every day of the week.
For someone who's playmaking ability is being touted so highly, he didn't really manipulate the defense the way you would have liked to have seen at the college level. His handle, shot, and decision making need a lot of growth to really unlock the ceiling that people see for him. He spent more time trying to go through guys than really making his impact from a place of skill. His functional athleticism was good, but not elite at the college level, so he's going to have to get craftier in the NBA.
That being said, there are parts of his game that are pretty advanced for someone his age. If that jumper improves, a lot of other aspects about his game become unlocked, and the improved spacing can provide more room to operate. He's unquestionably a top prospect in the draft, and was probably my ideal target until around December when he started to fall into hero ball and never looked back.
He's intriguing because he's a player with a foundation of skills that can pretty much fill any gap in a lineup from the swingman position...provided the jumper comes around.
Obviously, he's the favorite at 3. He's not so far ahead of the pack that I wouldn't consider moving down or drafting someone else, but his talent is enough that I'd take him and not have any regrets.
I definitely feel that
I just haven't really said too much about him all year cause there isn't much to say. He's been at 2 on my board pretty much the entire year, but that was cause nobody else really took it from him. I just don't look at anyone else in the draft and think, "yeah, this guy looks like a 2nd/3rd pick" or really even a 5th pick for that matter
He has the game of a really good player, it just needs a ton of refinement. Which is fine, he's not even 19 yet, so even among draftees he's pretty young, just very high risk high reward type deal with him
Same.
I wish it was more "he's definitely the 2nd best player in the draft" and not "nobody is really definitively better, so he's #2".
Though, Culver checks pretty much a lot of boxes for me as a prospect. He didn't overtake RJ to me, but I'd put them relatively on the same level, with Morant behind them.
After Zion, I find this draft to be pretty flat, with the next huge dip coming around 7-8.
Yeah, I like Culver
Not really feeling him at 3, seems more of a utility guy that'll plug into any lineup and just be solid. That'd be like drafting an O Lineman to me, yeah you need guys like that, but are you really gonna be excited about it?
If we could trade back with the Suns for their pick and next year's first, I'd seriously think about it. Do what the Hawks did last year, I think that ended up working out pretty well for them
