FYI, while we had some success until this last week in terms of being higher up in the standings than expected, our fundamental ratings belied that success and truly showed that we are a below avg team. Our defensive rating, throughout the season, has been in the bottom 5 and, without a super elite offense (we are average on offense) you can't be a good team. Thugger kept posting on how we fared against good teams (not well) which was also a good measure of where this team is. It is likely the case that the team you are seeing now is the team we honestly have been and will be going forward.

One thing is clear, that very few of the so called leaders on this team admit to playing poorly. No matter that KP has had his share of poor play, he is regularly the only one to admit it.
The others hide behind the word "we" much to often and not take personal responsibility for the deteriorating situation.
That Jeff said ..we'll look into some gimmicks for defense, is his way of maintaining composure and not erupting in the media room.
Jeff's, assisting a coaching icon such as no non-sense Jerry Sloan and having the likes of Phil Jackson as your boss, must be excruciatingly tough enough.
Melo is a storied community leader, even in the slums of Puerto Rico and I give him credit for that. But it is time to remove the C from his uniform, unless he starts taking more personal responsibility for these losses.

You could definitely see this losing stretch coming. We were winning close games, but not really playing great. Our defense was terrible and our offense really was not as good as the scoreboard was saying. We were playing with little intensity like we can cruise all game and turn on the jets in the 2nd half every game. Team was feeling themselves too much. Adjustments needed to be made, and we were too complacent to do anything.

God I wish somebody somewhere would stop this "Melo is one of the best pure scorers in the league" garbage. Who cares if you have 1,001 different ways to score and make it look pretty if your TS% is worse than Rudy Gay.

Congrats. Most ridiculous statement
Amar'e was out due to injuries; Carmelo is on the court every night and looking horrible.

Re: Magic PG: So Let Me Get This Straight...
Wasn't watching real closely last night, had other fish to fry. But not good, not good at all.
I would think that Rose brings back a significant amount from a contender who sees him as their missing piece.
I like the idea of Anthony, if he wants to be here, moving to the four, since his quickness issues would be minimized. KP can come off the bench like McHale. Celtics won a couple of championships with McHale coming off the bench. We also gotta hook up Anthony with that trainer that Derek Jeter worked with a couple of seasons before he retired. He really looked like a different player that season, especially in terms of range and flexibility.
Then KP can spend the offseason getting ready to play a lot more five.
Not much you can do about the Noah deal, but every team will have a bad contract or two to move sooner rather than later.

Definitely true. Again, we would not immediately be better if he wasn't on the team (we would be worse), but he has been trending down for at least the last year. He has lost a lot of athleticism do to the injury so his at the rim numbers are horrible and he isn't getting to the line. What that means is that his offense, as of the way we currently play it now, is predicated on him making those tough 15 footers and hitting threes. It is extremely difficult to be an efficient offensive player if that is your repertoire. Playing Noah exacerbates the issue because it kills the space on the floor. I would really like to see his numbers as a power forward, where he is playing against slower guys that he can go around and would have ample space at the rim because team's could not crowd the lane. THey legit do not even guard Joakim on offense so we are playing 4 on 5 every possession.

Yeah that's it. Amare didn't have as many good games his last 4 years as Melo has had this season.
But believe what you want

Re: Magic PG: So Let Me Get This Straight...
I'm completely baffled at Jeff's continual faith in Lance Thomas. The guy balled out last year (at least the first half of the season) and I was all for resigning him, but he has been God awful!!
He seems to fire at will as soon as he touches the ball and he has been completely lost on defense. The guy keeps sagging 10/15 feet off of his man and can never recover; and watching him completely leave his man last night to help Lee when Lee already had his man locked up was just infuriating!!
This guy has turned into a mental midget on both sides of the court!!
We have plenty of issues to go around but leaving him on the bench at giving Kuz his minutes seems like a decision that should have been made weeks ago!
Enough with the injury/plantar fasciitis excuses, even if his feet were 100% fine it wouldn't fix his brain-dead decisions.

Soooo... we're gonna bring our best player off the bench to appease the cancer on the team? Sounds like some Knicks **** to me

I think that's just context for "when they run his plays they work". You didn't hear Jeff scream swing it in the second quarter three times? He's trying but the team is thinking and not reacting. There aren't any difference makers on the team when KP isn't there or Melo isn't on.
if he cant get his message heard, who needs him. he certainly aint motivating them on d either.
I think you're underestimating how hard it might be to coach a team like this, in NYC, with Melo as your "leader" by default. Maybe without that NTC, there would be a lot less pressure to play nice. But Jeff knows Melo has more power than most players in the league. It's a really crumby situation for the coach. A very similar position D'Antoni found himself in with Melo.
Fish actually had Melo's ear the most. He was getting through to Melo. He just didn't have the talent to win. His rotations also sucked and he had his own beefs with Phil, but Fish was able to get Melo to conform a bit. I give him a ton of credit for that.

Melo is playing everyone for suckers at this point, he's not an All-Star or team leader or championship caliber player...all he does is market himself.

He's not an All-Star but he will be rewarded this February.

this is becoming a cop out for every situation. blame melo. nobody is playing d man. nobody. you have more talent on the roster and you're just as bad as last year. and they brought in noah to be the leader. that's his job.

Cmon. In no way shape or form did Melo run Woodson out and there are countless articles by so many outlets stating this. There are articles that say Woodson only made it through the entire 13-14 season because of Melo.
Didn't DFish get Dad Melo to come out? How is that chasing him out of town.
the only reason Melo backed Woodson was because he did exactly what Melo wanted. Let him iso all day and get the scoring title while switching on defense so he didn't have to work on the other end. He may have been worth it despite the passive aggressiveness, but he isn't anymore. The Melo era needs to die; perhaps along with the Phil era.
Thx for the corroboration that Melo DID NOT chase Woodson out of town
Melo stumped for Woodson because he didn't like D'Antoni's offense. He like Woodson because he let him ISO and switch, as pointed out.
By midway through Potato Head's 1st (ok, was it 2nd?) he had clearly LOST the team. Gee, I wonder why.

He's not our best player yet. He can't effectively exploit mismatches against smaller players the way he will be in a season or two of off-season work, and he prefers blocking shots to guarding stretch fours - which gets us into trouble when guarding the perimeter.
KP is a work in progress. Keep things in perspective.
