If no decisions have been made, then this is clearly not evaluating him talent-wise, as they would've already made a decision on that right now. Maybe they're monitoring the stock prices and things like that to see what the impact will be.

What is MSG stock looking like today?

And now for the big story of the day: Jeremy Lin. The Knicks will announce a decision this evening regarding the decision on the offer sheet Lin signed with the Rockets. Though reports have indicated the team will pass, internally there has been no final decision made. There are too many factors outside of basketball that come into play in regards to Lin and all of these need to be considered.

This evening eh?

the decision will probably be made around 4pm when the knicks play their summer league game

The way I look at it, it's pretty much a confirmation that we're matching Lin and that Melo is ready to go to war with him.

Cool.

If you imagine this tactic is going to influence how I and now you seemingly know how the next few days is going to go, you're mistaken.

Alan Hahn: Yes, “stretch provision” does give #Knicks some potential relief on the $14.9M balloon year for Lin. Definitely something in consideration. 1 minute ago

Christopher Reina: I still expect the Knicks to match Jeremy Lin's offer sheet. Ready to take bets. about 8 minutes ago

Alan Hahn: So let's say the Knicks decide to match and keep Jeremy Lin. With Ray Felton on the roster, does this turn into a ... http://sulia.com/c/new-york-knicks/f/31 ... ce=twitter about 9 minutes ago

Any interpretation of what's behind someone's statements would technically have to be defined as opinion, but I think this is fairly obvious.

darren rovell said the knicks only make money from the merchandise they sell inside MSG, and outside of MSG the league takes all the money.

We're going to match. Jay10's prediction that it would come before the summer league game is pretty good. I expect around 8 pm.

Somehow I don't think the summer league game will be enough of a "Wag the Dog" event.

It's not a tactic. You are very rancorous and disrespectful in your tone -- so I'm going to forget about giving my opinion with you and focus on the two things you want most:

1. Credit for being right. Thus the cookie.

2. To get at me. Thus the autographed photo.

So let's make it happen. You can eat the cookie while you frame my picture above your fireplace.

So, they can match him and then re-structure his deal? Is that possible?

:o :o :o

There must be off court factors to consider, because on the court, it's a no brainer.

I'm pretty sure the stock diving and jersey sells and all that make majority of off-court factors advantageous to matching Lin which leads me to believe that the talent evaluation portion is seriously looking down on Lin...Which to me is ridiculous!!!

Melo said what he said bc if he says anything different it brings unnecessary criticism to him. Him being politically correct and saying both sides want to be in NY by no means actually means he's speaking the gospel and letting out some secret we were all unaware of.. He said what you'd "expect" him to say.. I doubt they'll care much about what people perceive from his comments if they do not match.

It's about television contracts, not selling shirts.

Well, if they're holding a press conference this evening, then that would seem a good thing right? They didn't hold a presser when they let Fields go, did they? They'd be more likely to let it expire at midnight rather than hold an earlier press conference if not matching right? Unless they're just trying to maintain spin and damage control.

Here's a question for the anti-Lin folks: Everyone points to Lin's one bad game against Miami as a reason we shouldn't resign him, but nobody has any problem with the fact that the Heat completely shut down Novak for an entire five game series and we still gave him a four-year deal?

A lot of things had seem obvious and didn't happen the way it was suppose to happen. Fact is, we don't know whats going to happen or whats going on....its just opinions & specualation.
