Guarantee that trade won't happen. Knicks are better off working out a buyout for Melo where he won't opt in next year than taking back mostly Anderson and a crappy future first. If this front office has any sense, they don't want to jam Anderson into a front court that already includes KP, Willy, Noah, and O'quinn under contract the next two years.

Only way Knicks even think about taking on Anderson is if they get 2 or 3 future firsts for it. It'll have to be a trade like back in Isiah Thomas days where we clear them out of their 2021 and beyond picks.

Lee is an upgrade over shumpert because he can play defense like shump but he can shoot the ball much better. Melo is just a better fit against golden state than love.

I would do Lee + Melo for Love + Shump + Frye with Love going to Boston or Washington or Utah (or Phoenix?) for better fitting assets.

Clear cap + load up on assets. Lee + Melo improve Cleveland's chances IMO so we should certainly get compensated for that.

By the way, I imagine there are a few Eastern Conference teams that would take a flyer on Anderson as a 3-point stretch four. I can see Detroit and Charlotte being interested. Surrounding your big with 4 bonafide 3-point threats is a proven Houston-style offense in the modern NBA. Very tough to stop in the regular season.

The deal would work if the Rockets sent us pj tucker, Gordon and a 1st. Then we could flip lee and o Quinn and have someone there to fill the SG spot.

I don't want to hear these trades that involve us paying one or two guys $20-$25MM total in 2019 when Melo's deal may not last past this season. That is lunacy.

You would think that would be the case, but I heard rumors teams were wanting picks just to take on Anderson's contract when the Rockets were trying to open cap space. If they want a deal for Melo around Anderson, the Rockets need to find the 3rd team to give up assets for Anderson to include in a deal to us.

If we don't get a deal that actually helps us, we should just sit tight. We should understand that if we keep Melo, there is a chance he will opt out next year anyway (I don't think he will want to because he will lose money, but I think he may feel the pressure to look like winning is his priority). We should then present this to him as a buyout option. "We will pay you your salary for this year and buy you out for that 26 million - but we are not paying you for next year too. This way you can add a little more money in whatever salary you make this year from wherever you sign, than you would if you just opted out at the end of the year. Or you can stay and be a mentor to our young squad. Your choice." Honestly this is still a favor to him, to pay him that much to just walk.

I agree that we need to stay patient with Melo. The back channels will work themselves out. Too many teams will need his services if they want to take a step forward, on paper, to keep up with the joneses.

Also, I think if Melo stays, there's a great chance he opts out after this season. He'd want a new 3-year deal somewhere.

I.T. was right about one thing. You have to give to get. Negotiation in any type of melo trade should start with a first round draft pick, expiring contract, and a young prospect. Melo and the contending team have more to loose than the Knicks to be quite honest. Its up to the team of Melo's choosing to make that happen.

I agree with this. Right now, Houston and Cleveland will want to test how desperate we are. Melo and his team want to test how desperate we are. Melo's prior claims that he "wants to stay" I think were more to get us to agree to a buyout, and it almost worked.

After free agency, and after we reject the terrible deals that Houston and Cleveland will offer, his market will come into focus. I don't think Melo wants any part of staying in NY (not anymore), despite what he may have said previously.

Doing a junky deal just to "move on" is really short sighted.

It's a shame that Jackson gave Melo that NTC because Charlotte would jump at the chance to trade for him. He's exactly what the team is missing.

well its a major development as this is the first time Melo has opened up the possibility of waiving his NTC

we always assumed those two teams were possible for him but now its legit

truth is nothing major changes unless we can find a 3rd team or clev is willing to part with Love
