What's the last team with two starting 6'1" guards who won a championship? played in a final series? Made the playoffs? NOT WORTH IT. Keep our 2023 picks and Obi and Grimes and roll the dice. We might get a Hailburton or D. Mitchell at 10 or so, we're DUE. And even if we don't DM isn't going to get us past the 2nd round. :noway: :nonono: :banghead:

how are we drafting 10 when we were like 11 this year and added Brunson. More like 14-16 range which is NBA purgatory.

Which is why we need to pull the trigger and make this trade. :D

How likely is it that Thibs joins the front office in some director of coaching role after a year and Johnnie takes over this young and up coming team

Yup, I believe Grimes/Barrett have enough upside that I can gamble on our internal improvement and their development…

I could see a scenario where standing pat gets us a team NO WORSE than gutting it for DMitch

We have to be willing to walk away and live to fight another day with our warchest of assets. That's the only way we get a fair deal from Ainge. You have to be willing to walk...

Yeah, I’d much rather give up Quickley

Absolutely. I like what IQ brings, but he’s going to be redundant and his type of player is much easier to find.

Obi is sui generis among contemporary NBA players. You will not find another one like him for a very long time, if ever. The guy will be a difference maker for whomever he plays even coming off the bench. He is one of the most disruptive players for a guy who is almost purely opportunistic I’ve ever seen. Having a guy you don’t need to run the offense through who does what he does balances out a squad enormously

If they let Obi go they are dense AF

Fair points. I like Obi, too, and it would also give us insurance to deal Randle at some point down the road...

* right about Randle and the fake season - He can recover
* right about RJ and his fake not even league average season He is too young. He will get better
* right about RJ and his agent statwhoring to try to get 20 by putting the chuck meter to 10 then sitting out games It does not matter
* right about not stretching Noah for no reason We needed to waive him. I don't know if we can stretch some time after have waived him
* right about Cam trade, and that he'd never play here and that it was a waste of a 1st rounder He might stick with the team and get minutes to prove his value
* right about Thibs being an orc It does not matter
* right about Leon Rose being one of the worst 3 GMs in the league, 5 negative value contracts in one off season We got rid of 3 of them. Evan is the next.
* right about not extending Randle for no reason We should not have extended him. But he can improve
* right about re-signing Mitch
* right about Sam Rose just being a fat young Leon still piping money from Dolan into CAA

* wrong about them snap extending RJ for the max (starphucking with mitchell the likely cause)
* wrong about them making the pick this year (didn't see just punting on a draft when your roster doesn't have a top 50 player on it)

Reported requests from the Jazz for Donovan Mitchell are merely for public consumption. These things are leaked to show the efforts made. For the Jazz, what they are demanding, for the Knicks, what they refuse to do.
These are tone-setters.
The Jazz know the Knicks want Donovan and he wants to be in New York. The Knicks know they have the best pick package to offer.
The trouble spot is how to make the money work. There may need to be a third team involved. I don’t think the Knicks want to move Derrick Rose for various reasons. So there’s a lot to work out.
Also: the Suns matching the Deandre Ayton offer sheet from the Pacers effectively eliminates a competing option for the Jazz to work a three-team with the Nets (KD) and Suns. More leverage gone for Ainge and Co.
Just remember, you have to give to get. Everything comes at a cost and the market has changed dramatically for all-star players under contract.

Here is the 3 team deal

Utah gets to move off on Conley extra year of his deal. Lakers get a starting 1 and shooting in Fournier and Cam Reddish who they were interested in for Westbrook Expiring.

Jazz get wesbtrook expiring (they can buy him out) and Grimes who they want along with 5 1st round picks from the Knicks (4 unproteced and one other pick). The lakers send out there 2027 1st as well to the jazz.

Knicks get: Spida

Jazz get: Grimes + Westbrook (buyout) + 6 1st rounders (5 from knicks + 1 from lakers).

Lakers get: Conley + Fournier + Cam Reddish
4-Peat! 22-25 BAF Champion Spurs:

Walker Kessler/Daniel Gafford/Adem Bona
Nikola Jokic/Santi Aldama/Isaiah Stewart

So if it's Obi or IQ... you'd keep Obi? Both guys won't get many minutes with Randle and Spida in front of them but I'd suspect IQ would get more minutes since Rose is fragile and we can go ultra small some times... All things equal, the slight edge goes to IQ in terms of "value" he'd potentially give us over the years over Obi... unless the front office has machinations about trading Randle some day soon to open up the path for Obi. In that case, then you keep Obi over IQ.

I already replied to another post that answers to question.

In sum, Obi is going to be very impactful and will be personally responsible for more wins than his stats may ever convey. His court sense is really great and his level of opportunism is unique. It’s partly a glue guy attribute, but its also an extra sauce that no one else provides and that often is indefensible. You can’t defend something when you can’t anticipate it. Obi is the ghost in the machine. He’s going to win us games if we keep him. He’ll do it for someone else if we foolishly let him go

Didn't you say you wouldn't trade Frank and Knox for Anthony Davis?

I would be a bit more humble if I were you

Please tell me when I said I wouldn't trade Frank and Knox for Anthony Davis, one of my favorite basketball players of all time.

Speaking of being humble, you're so desperate to be right after being wrong so often that you're literally making **** up. Sad and pathetic outcome CB. Sad and pathetic.

The problem with this line of thinking is that Ainge doesn't have to deal Mitchell. This is not a KD situation. He can also pull the deal off the table. Just give Ainge what he wants and let's go for it.

The KD situation and the Mitchell situation only last so long. How long can a team and coach put up with it if your best player isn't invested? Sure you can try to mask it...but Utah has a new young coach you really think they want this hanging over there head with Mitchell unhappy he is on a team that doesn't want to compete. Every year Mitchell remains in that situation Utah will lose leverage too.

Again the knicks have there leverage players as well and Utah has theres...that is why if Ainge wants a deal done he needs some give and take. He can't just be like heres my offer deal with it. Then Leon which it sounds like rightfully backed away for now.

There will be more talks in coming days and weeks. But just like Ainge knows we want Mitchell...Leon knows we have the picks that no one else does that Ainge wants.

He wants to beat the Gobert trade 4 1st rounders and a 1 swap. If we give him Grimes + 6 1st rounders that trumps that offer. He can't ask for Obi and IQ too.

Ainge will surely ask for more, whether Leon and Dolan cave to his demands is the question.
