Mitchell is a great player that I would have loved to have, but we made the right decision. That trade would have zapped our resources where we would not have been able to assemble OG, Mikal, Hart....maybe Deuce...maybe KAT.
It was perfect timing to add Mikal and KAT
Plus we already beat Clev in the playoffs pretty badly....with RJ as our 2nd best player in the series![]()
I don't think that's true.
Hart only took Cam and a protected first. We could've still traded for him.
We would still have IQ who became the centerpiece of the OG trade, with additional picks and salary filler to trade if needed. We could've still traded for him.
We had the resources to build a contender around Mitchell and Brunson. And as it turns out, Ainge's demands were pretty much a bargain for us.
That we beat them with Mitchell doesn't automatically mean we would've met Cleveland's fate with him on our squad.
It's perfectly fine to be happy with our current squad - which I am - and admit to these points.
That protected first we used for Hart would have been gone to move Fournier in the deal.
Woj reported 3 picks Nyk 1sts, 2 swaps, 2 other picks, a bunch of 2nds….plus RJ and IQ or Grimes. Basically the assets we used to get OG, Hart, and MikalWhen guard Immanuel Quickley was proposed as a replacement for Grimes in the trade, Utah wanted three unprotected first-round draft picks as part of the package -- but New York would only do a third first-round pick that included top-five protections, sources said. Those packages would've included Milwaukee's 2025 first-round pick, two second-round picks, two pick swaps and two expiring contracts from a third team, sources said. New York would've moved out Evan Fournier and a first-round pick to a third team to spare Utah taking on Fournier's remaining $37 million, sources said.
RJ and Grimes plus 3 firsts is the most high-end reporting of the return (perhaps a 1-2 additional pick swap). Inserting Grimes in the deal instead of IQ was always supposed to reduce the amount of outgoing draft picks, and he was the biggest sticking point.
Fournier's deal was mentioned as going to Utah and other places. There were different iterations. I don't know which report you're using - sources varied and talks kept evolving so the negotiations changed over time.
But we would still have had a protected pick plus Reddish for Hart. There was never any report by credible insiders about all our protected picks going in that trade.
We'd have kept IQ which means we'd still have the centerpiece of the OG trade.
If we still signed DDV in the subsequent summer, we'd still be able to package Randle and DDV for KAT.
The only big acquisition we couldn't pull off would be Bridges. And we'd have regained rights over two of our firsts as the trade went down over two years ago.
Listen, you can prefer this current iteration of the Knicks, as I do, but there's no need to cap about the Mitchell trade. We're good now. No need to make chit up to feel better about our present.

Didn’t watch so I can’t confirm!
But it sounds like this new rotation they’re doing with him has him playing better lately. #1 offensive rating and top 10 defense with that group. Randle said he has more space to be a point forward too.
Calm down, they are not phasing Gobert out of the rotation.

Cant blame em.
I'd hate him and the FO and cj McCollum with a passion. They were contenders. Now they're watching Randle, worried they're gonna lose Ant and turning to us to vent their frustration. That's down bad.

I didn't like seeing Donte turn into a pumpkin for you guys early on. He brings so much passion to the game it was tough to see. He started out kinda rough for us last year as well so maybe this is a turning point for him.

I posted the deal directly from Woj. Not making things up.
3 Nyk 1sts, 2 swaps, 2 other picks, a bunch of 2nds, RJ, Fournier and IQ or Grimes.
If you think we could have gotten Mitchell for 3 picks, RJ and IQ that is straight up delusional when he was traded for 3 picks, 2 swaps, Lauri, Sexton, and Agbaji (lottery pick in the draft).
Just use common sense. To beat Cleveland's offer, it would have to be something similar to what I posted. What you posted doesn't come close to beating the actual deal.
Plus on one hand your saying RJ can be the center piece of a deal for Mitchell, on the other hand he didn't matter to Toronto
With IQ vs Grimes, the issue is Mitchell and Brunson would be playing most of the minutes. There wouldn't have been much minutes or opportunity for IQ thus why he was preferred to be in the deal.
So basically every asset we used to get OG, Mikal and Hart would have been gone. It's almost word for word.... Combine the Mikal, Hart, OG trades and that's what Ainge wanted... Maybe a tad less.
Would have been a totally different team so tough to say. Rose def would have made more moves and maybe we get 2 of those 4. We certainly wouldn't have everyone. Don't think you can simply swap Mikal for Mitchell because it doesn't even work cap wise.
In the end I do love this team and where we are at. Just posting facts about what the deal actual was and saying I prefer this team.
