The inaugural 'I told ya so' laps based on preseason is always entertaining.....
If you'd rather see your team fail so you can be right

Not pretty, but obvious.
Melo is out because he can't defend, and teams don't want the distraction of dealing with that.
Love Melo but yup, it reminds me in some instances of Terrell Owens, yes the talent is there but the distractions are just too much.
With Melo he has a star behind his name still but the play isn’t there and most likely he’ll be coming off the bench. You’re talking about a 6th man having the attention at his locker like he’s a starter. Same **** he got mad at Lin for.
Then you add in the lack of defense, nightmare.

I'm so nervous we're going to be the ones to overpay him this offseason. He fits the mold, to a T, of the guys Perry likes.

Depends on what they consider long-term.
3 year deal for Jaylen?

LaMelo! He could fall in our laps if things break right.
× Not playing in college
× His pops
× Has some attitude concerns
But I'd still take the risk:
✓ Just as much, if not more, range than Garland
✓ Bigger than Garland or Trier as a legit 6'8" PG
✓ As much craft as SGA
✓ Has that it factor that's built for NY
✓ Won't shrink under the lights
✓ Ball/Barrett backcourt is HUGE and compliments eachother
**** everything. The on paper fit is amazing. I'm in.
Of course, as always, we'll need a backup plan. But we need to be thinking long term guard. Let the college thread wars commence.
But you won't use the "T" word?
I don't think I need to

it basically throws away their whole 2020 plan for jaylen. i don't think so.
also, he's turning down 4 for 80. are we maxing him for 3 ?

Only way I would consider it is if one of RJ or DSJ looks like a future undeniable stud this season. Then I could see a scenario where committing to a young potential high level role player, who has a pretty defined floor, could make some sense. Other than that I have no interest in paying anybody but Brandon Ingram possibly over 20m and that's really just based on a hunch that I think he's better than what he's shown so far...

That's 2021. Plenty of time to maneuver around Jaylen's deal

I guess you would be able to sell 3/75 with a player option on the 3rd year as a way to get overpaid now and a quicker path to free agency in your prime again... I think that's ultimately what happens with him. Nobody is going to commit the money he wants to him long term. His asking price is too delusional for what he actually brings currently to a team.

in all seriousness, whether giannis or anyone else ever comes, it's smart to have a "no huge contract to anyone but stars" plan in perpetuity. the only problem is eventually you gotta start paying the kids you drafted and, until you draft or sign a star, you gotta let a lot of them go. decisions on trier, dotson, frank and dennis are coming all before 2020. because you'd rather trade them then let them walk for nothing.

Celtics should trade Hayward. Playing him next to Tatum and Brown is a bad fit

Unfortunately for them Hayward is a poison pill contract. They arent getting rid of him without paying a hefty price

Yeah they're stuck with him. The least they can do is use him as a 6th man. Idk why Brad Stevens keeps insisting on playing him in the starting lineup with 3 other guys that need the ball.

The paying the kids is where it can get tricky. I think even if they are not a star and even if we don't have a star, in some cases that player might still be worth keeping so I don’t agree with letting them all go. It really depends on the player, situation and price so I think it has to be considered on a case to case basis.
For Trier, Dot, Frank and Dennis...none seem like breaking the bank for at this point. But depends how the season goes and the price.
I just think some contunity can be good. We really haven't extended any young player long term since Charlie Ward, so it has been awhile
