I'm very confident that it's by design. And I think it's smart too. Only a two game sample, but Edwards' 3-point percentage is currently identical to what it was last season, and he's nearly doubled his volume (from 9.5 per 100 to 17.0 per 100).
A big talking here over the offseason is that it's a bad thing that we were third in the NBA last season in 3-point percentage, because it meant we didn't shoot enough of them. I think they have been pleading with guys to shoot more 3s. Heck, I think it might have even factored into the trade. Towns tends to be gun-shy at times, almost in a way to protect his percentages. Meanwhile, Randle shoots 3s at a similar rate as Towns, and DiVincenzo had one of the highest rates in the league.
