except Josh Smith has been hawks best player for the past 2 years. And they have had home court in the playoffs for couple years straight now. They even had the 4th seed with Horford out for the season last year.

yeah, I definitely like josh more than al. al is so boring. all he does is shoot mid range jumpers. josh is a powerhouse

josh is a very good player and extremely talented. I'd definitely take him if we could

it's not the injuries ... it's that they took this team away from him. he had a really good thing going when it was him with felton, gallo, and chandler. that team made sense around him. they should have used their cap space to go after another player who would work next to him, either a pg like chris paul or deron williams or a center like marc gasol. instead they made it "melo's" team and completely undermined amar'e ... our best point guard at the beginning of the season was either toney douglas or mike bibby

We wouldn't have had the capspace to go after CP3 and DWill if we kept Gallo and Chandler

I want amar'e gone because he's useless at this point, but I feel bad for him too

I don't think he enjoys playing anymore. sometimes it seems like he's avoiding playing ...I don't think he enjoys looking like a bad player, being helpless out there, having his flaws as a player exposed. I think he liked playing next to steve nash and getting to play like a star ... I think he liked getting to be kind of new york for a couple of months ... I think he's relieved to have excuses not to play and it's a sad sight to see ...

So basically you wanted us to be the Mavs and hope that Paul or Williams decide to sign with us?
Marc Gasol was never coming here, he was restricted and the Grizz were going to match no matter what.

So that leaves CP3 somehow thinking that he and amare plus role players were good enough to win. Highly doubt that.

Deron didn't even acknolwedge the Knicks the past two years with the Nyets. So why would he even be in your discussion?

It was basically CP3 or nothing. And most likely it was nothing because the only way we were getting him is through a trade. Which would have been of the caliber of the Melo trade IF he even wanted to come here to play with Amare and scraps.

No, then we waste our 3 year window with Melo + Tyson. Despite its misgivings, they are 2 players that are both somewhere between very good-great (possibly elite) at what they do. Surround them with better players that can fill roles (not just old people) and we can have a shot in the playoffs.

This just simply won't happen with Amare playing any significant minutes because he is awful and a liability on both ends of the floor. Even when he's playing "well", he hurts every conducive 5 man lineup he's a part of.

Your logic is flawed here.

here is what we put on the court during Amare's first season vs this year
C Turiaf C Tyson
PF Amare PF Amare
SF GAllo SF Melo
SG Will/Fields SG Brewer/Shump
PG Felton PG Felton

HIs whole team is better and HE HAS THE SAME PG.

So why would he hate playing ball? You are reaching. Really really far.

nah, I just think this team should have been patient. players who would have been better "fits" would have become available and they wouldn't have had to throw away nearly every asset to get them... if they hadn't done the melo trade, they could have at least tried to pry marc gasol away by throwing a max at him over the summ ... maybe someone else who would have been a good fit like kyle lowry or kevin martin would have been avialable

Marc Gasol was NEVER going anywhere. The Rockets threw money at him and the Grizz matched. Forget about him , he was a pipe dream.

Kevin Martin sucks. Just ask any Rocket fan who has been wanting to get rid of him for the past two years.

Kyle Lowry you have a point. However he is not a pass first guard. I don't know how he and Amare would have meshed.

Our mistake was not getting Melo. Our mistake was panicking over Lebron/Wade/Bosh and our 2010 plan and signing whoever remained just so that he have something to show for our two years of tanking.

I would have been fine with tanking one more year and getting a high draft pick and having cap space than getting Amare and the role player brigade.

It got so bad that we were going to throw a max to Joe Johnson to pair with Amare. JOE FREAKING JOHNSON. Good thing he didn't want to play here.

SMH Donnie panicked and here we are.

well, I understand why he left the suns. they only offered three years and he knew there'd be teams offering five. money is money. initially, new york was a good choice for him because of d'antoni (even if they didn't quite have a point guard yet) ... the melo trade made new york a bad place for him ... amar'e doesn't know how to be a second option and he doesn't know how to play on a half court team.

it's sad ... i really feel for the dude because I don't think there's anything he can do about his current situation ... he just doesn't have the brains or the skills to be useful for this sort of a team and hanging out with hakeem olajuwon for a couple of weeks isn't going to change that

good post and very true.... the big deal about him working out with hakeem was just a lot of smoke.... amare is what he is and should be allowed to play that way....I feel bad for him.... there is nothing he can do about his current situation...... and we really can't trade him...... we have to hope he is healthy and then go from there...

Are we rooting for the Knicks or are we rooting for Amare here? Because you saying Amare can't work as a second option means you think we should have built a team around him?' No team with Amare as its 1st option is going anywhere. No team. Nash was option 1 and 2 in Phoenix.

You mentioned CP3 and Derron. Those guys would have been option 1 also. I don't get your point.

I think we EASILY could have built a team better than the one we have now with Amar'e as more or less the best player or at least the guy who scored the most points ... heck, that 2010 team had as good a record as the post-melo trade knicks have had and that team had plenty of room for improvement.

I think a team like
Lowry
Martin
Landry
Gallo
Amar'e

would have been a very, very good team. there are plenty of other similar teams you could build.

Return to New York Knicks
