Jonathan Simmons played his best basketball in the playoffs after Kawahi got hurt. For the season he averaged 6.2 points and 2.1 rebounds a game on 42% shooting. He also will be turning 28 before the season starts.

Timmy averaged 14.5 points and 2.8 rebounds on 45% shooting and won't turn 26 for almost a whole year from now.

He is already so much better. Come on now. People tend to overvalue Spurs backups. They almost always burn out once they leave. Apart from George Hill, I don't recall anyone performing well outside.

If they signed Simmons they would have had a logjam at SF. They already had Kawahi and then they added Rudy Gay and they still are trying to develop Kyle Anderson. The Spurs always make the right moves and I envy their front office.

They chose Gay who is still injured over Simmons. How good can Simmons be?

That's not how value works. Value works both ways. Supply and demand. This is basic business. First off, Melo is not "needed" on the teams he wishes to go to. They are already good, solid teams. The Knicks have publicly come out and said the want to move Melo while painting him as a malcontent and a flat out bad player. There is a narrative in NY that he's simply not good anymore. That right there is called personal value. It's the value we hold in something and it's expressed in multiple ways. Urgency, need, financial implications, structural integrity and so on.

When Phil kept bashing Melo with the media pilling on to the point where they, themselves started feeling bad for the guy...

It showed that the Knicks don't hold value in Melo. He's not wanted. He's expendable. Since he's a "malcontent" he must be moved before he corrupts the younger players. Add that to the fact that he isn't cheap or young and what do you expect to be offered?

How many people on this board owns things they had to haggle for? The way some of you view value makes this a relevant question.

You've obviously never studied economics by this response. Value is determined by what someone else is willing to pay, not by what the owner thinks its value is. I can think my ball of lint is worth $100 million, but if someone else is only willing to pay 10 cents for it, then it's value is 10 cents. Even if you undervalue something, that still doesn't lower the market value for something. Suppose you owned a $1m painting, but hated it. You were willing to sell it for $100k; a buyer would still be willing to pay $1m because that is the market value.

Phil Jackson's comments did nothing to Melo's value. His 14 year career is what sets his value. That and the NTC.

Wow are you two dense. I don't understand why this is a difficult concept to grasp. If you come to look at a car I listed, you have an expectation of value based on the year, make, general condition, etc. At that point in time, based on those factors, you have an idea of the value of that car in your head. Now if when you show up I start talking about how I need to get rid of this car before the weekend because I'm going out of state and can't take it with me, are you still going to offer me what you would have before I started talking about how I needed to get rid of it? Of course not. You'd be stupid to. This is in essence what Phil did.

Knight is an inefficient SG, not a PG. He makes Kyrie look like Chris Paul in orchestrating an offense. Unless we're getting back a first round pick(s) and/or a young player, he should be nowhere near this team. He's the poop emoji without the smiling face.

There's a player in there. He was solid in MIL.

He's expiring in 2020, the next time we'll be able to add significant talent in FA anyway. So cap wise it's fine.
