I was excited to see how that lineup would do.

m2 bro. absolutely.
but when a 25 year old multiple all star becomes available you have to strike..

No you don't.

The Celtics passed on trading Brown for PG13 after his rookie year, turned out fine for them.

i don't remember that, was that a 1 for 1 trade? straight up jb for pg?

Reported requests from the Jazz for Donovan Mitchell are merely for public consumption. These things are leaked to show the efforts made. For the Jazz, what they are demanding, for the Knicks, what they refuse to do.
These are tone-setters.
The Jazz know the Knicks want Donovan and he wants to be in New York. The Knicks know they have the best pick package to offer.
The trouble spot is how to make the money work. There may need to be a third team involved. I don’t think the Knicks want to move Derrick Rose for various reasons. So there’s a lot to work out.
Also: the Suns matching the Deandre Ayton offer sheet from the Pacers effectively eliminates a competing option for the Jazz to work a three-team with the Nets (KD) and Suns. More leverage gone for Ainge and Co.
Just remember, you have to give to get. Everything comes at a cost and the market has changed dramatically for all-star players under contract.

Here is the 3 team deal

Image

Utah gets to move off on Conley extra year of his deal. Lakers get a starting 1 and shooting in Fournier and Cam Reddish who they were interested in for Westbrook Expiring.

Jazz get wesbtrook expiring (they can buy him out) and Grimes who they want along with 5 1st round picks from the Knicks (4 unproteced and one other pick). The lakers send out there 2027 1st as well to the jazz.

Knicks get: Spida

Jazz get: Grimes + Westbrook (buyout) + 6 1st rounders (5 from knicks + 1 from lakers).

Lakers get: Conley + Fournier + Cam Reddish
Knicks don't want to give up 3 picks why would they give up 5 picks? Jazz can get picks for Conley anytime and doesn't want a washed up vet Westbrook if they take RJ and couple picks for NY is there? Don't see the jazz waiving and player making 46 million a year or chance winning games for teen pick next year. See Lakers loving the deal and NY.

im sure im missing some guys here and there in the top 25.

So realistically you have to get into the "Mikal Bridges" level of player, around rank 40. Basically guys who are #3s on winning teams and #4-5 on championship level teams.

so exactly who else can we get thats better than Donovan Mitchell?

Thank you for posting this. Dead on. There is literally NO ONE ELSE at the level Mitchell to be had in the next 2+ years. You make a deal no matter the cost if you can add a player at Mitchell's level. Obviously I don't want to give up what it will take, but what other option does this franchise have? You're kidding yourself if you think Brunson plus Obi/IQ/Grimes are going to take us anywhere.

This is a star's league, and Mitchell is a star. And 25 years old. Make the damn deal.

What has Mitchell ever won? How far did Utah get with him AND ANOTHER ALL STAR, DPOY? What makes him a star? Randle was an all-star. People around here don't seem to value him so much now. Mitchell is 6'1." Now if you're talking MARKETING, okay. A star IN THAT SENSE. But be honest. If it's just about selling ticket and merch, it's understandable. But he's not leading us the the Finals.

Why do people make the selling tickets argument? it's so **** stupid, when do the knicks not sell out? i used to work at jp morgan, they would just buy any available tickets to give out as minor thank you to the 1st year analysts.

If its between keeping IQ and Obi, its easily Obi for me (surprise surprise).

Mitchell is basically a way better IQ so I dont see what IQ brings to the team anymore besides 15 mpg. We can always trade Julius, and Obi gives us a different dimension that is rarer. IQ cant play with Mitchell, Brunson, and RJ at the same time while Obi can. Obi just seems like he will feast from all the attention.

Knicks will absolutely give up 5 picks...they don't want to give up 6 picks with Grimes/Obi/IQ. If Obi and IQ aren't in the deal the knicks will give 5 picks.

And why wouldn't the jazz want to move off of Conley's 20+ million for nothing next year? Conley doesn't have a huge market at that price point...and no they can't move conley for picks anytime they wanted. Who is banging down the door for a soon to be 35 year old PG that makes over 20 MM?

They would buy out westbrook. AInge wants picks and he wants to tank and then he moves extra money off the books next year so he books are totally clean. This is exactly what Ainge wants...expiring contracts, a ton of future unprotected picks, and he gets Grimes with Shams stated was a player they are interest in.

2nd round? That's generous

Its so beyond dumb to trade for D Mitch as if he's the final piece to a championship for this team.. Like even with D Mitch on this squad for free we wouldn't be the favorites to win. Yet people wanna trade away half our bench and half a decade of 1st rounders for this guy as if it's gonna make us win.

This is a superstar league and Mitchell is just a star. Whether you get him or don’t get him the end result is the same. Zero chips for the Knicks. A backcourt of Mitch and Brunson is atrocious defensively and will be exploited. Losing depth and adding journeymen will do nothing to better us. Trading all our assets will put us in a position where we can’t improve.

At this point I don’t care but using the rationale that this is a star league is dumb. When was the last time a non superstar Top 10 player won a chip? The Pistons?
