On the downside, that would bring them within 2 games.

Ah, gotcha.

I knew the Nets would lose this.

Well, when 53/79 million of your cap space is banged up/not playing.. it's hard to play "told you so" and tie it back to "Melo ISOs," Lin, and all the other talking points.

That's weird because I thought the team was struggling before the injuries to Amar'e, Melo, And Chandler.

If you want to complain about reliance on 3s, lack of defensive intensity etc etc -- i'm all with ya. Not the same team we saw at the beginning of the year... And I think a variety of factors are to blame. "Melo ISOs" "The Melo trade" "Lin" and the like aren't high up on that list- as much as these people would like them to be.

Cause and effect man... the decisions of the past most certainly influence the team today. Keep Lin, maybe less Melo Iso's... have one guy capable of carrying a team by virtue of making menial players good for a little stretch here and there if Melo goes down or Stat. Decide to go younger with regards to off season moves and maybe when guys go down you still have the energy to compete and maybe develop a player or two with more talent.

This team is %100 built around Melo first everything else be damned... I don't think a franchise is going to get where they want to get by doing that.. ever.

They began struggling when the 3s stopped falling as much and the defensive intensity vanished. However having these injuries, I would imagine, hasn't helped. I would also imagine that something like Stat, the other 19 mill guy, being nonexistent as had a little bit of an impact as well.. perhaps much more than "Melo ISOs" etc etc..

In fact, bringing stuff like that up, to me, is nothing more than people voicing what that they don't like about the team because it's an opportune time to -- and not because it's the cause... which is fine, but a distinction needs to be made, imo.

Yes Melo is the true 19 million dollar player.. And this may be "his team" .. but that still doesn't change the fact that this team, more or less, is basically playing as if they threw 19 mill of cap space away. To me, that pretty much throws out all real expectations for this team. Yeah I still expect Melo to win with this team and perform-- but not anywhere near where I would if we had a real superstar playing next to him, or even a healthy Amare... Because no one thought Melo was Lebron James to begin with.. and I think James is probably the only one that could take this current team and turn it into some sort of "true contender" ... But alas, those damned isos.

I actually don't mind the Nets making things interesting for this division... So long as they don't win it, of course... It may light a fire / pressure this Knickteam.. Given their struggles may be beyond 'effort' or things pressure can be a catalyst for.. Perhaps it'll be a wake up call. At the least, Woodson won't be able to brush off questions with the assurance that 'we're still atop the division' with the same ease.

I think unless you're talking about teams that rarely lose like Miami and San Antonio, making "the loss column" the standing of record doesn't make sense.

Kind of funny how Deron somehow avoids the scathing criticism of the media after he screwed up Utah and now is underachieving with the Nets...this was a guy who was considered one of top two PGs in the NBA...guess he's just a nice guy...

the loss column standing of record means everything when teams have played a different amount of games.

the nets have played 2 more games then us

they are 1 back in the standings.

I would much rather have us 2 games up in the loss column (1 game up in the standings)

then

1 game up in the loss column (1 game back up in the standings)

makes sense?

basically meaning we can go 1-1 and still win the division...instead of losing the game and the nets winning a game and we tie.

I've seen some criticism of Anthony in the media, but scathing? I don't that adjective could be applied.

I disagree. A win is a non-loss, and unless your losses are few and far between, that means plenty.
