Lin would have been cap neutral since we had his Bird rights we could have had Felton and Lin. The only difference would have been the luxury tax. There was a court case about this if you remember and the decision was in favor of the Knicks. So to answer your question Lin would have only cost us a roster spot and Luxury tax so pick out the worst guy on the roster and that is the guy whose spot Lin would have taken up. We are a garbage organization.
if they had extended him right away, which was the obvious move, he wouldn't ever had the houston offer. even after the houston offer, if knicks had matched, i don't think they would have signed felton, but someone else in his place with the same money, likely a SG or SF.
