Not only that, we got Mitch locked up for the next 3 seasons at just over 5 million TOTAL. Could become the best contract in the league soon. I'm sure they could extend him before that but I'm not up to speed on how you extend 2nd rounders. Very excited to see his game this year.

What can you do really? One thing you can't keep doing is promoting a losing culture and expecting a savior through the draft.

Keep in mind Curry was picked 7th, Kawhi was 15th, Clay Thompson was 11th, Giannis was 15th, M. Gasol and Green were selected in the second round, etc.

You do not need to keep tanking in order to get gems. You just need to draft right and get a little lucky in the process. So even if we win only 30 something games this year, it would be a step in the right direction, and you could still acquire talent through the draft. But stop tanking for top picks. No one is going to want to come here if we keep losing year after year.

I'm hoping they took the hint after this draft. Tanking doesn't guarantee anything any more.

Hell, if the past draft was any indication, they could win 30 games, miss the playoffs altogether and still land a high pick.

They gotta start playing to win from now on. Full stop.

Mitchell Robinson was drafted in the 2nd round too. Like I said, you do not need to keep tanking in order to find talent.

i'm pretty sure the last year is a team option. depending where he is and where we are, they might not use the option and extend him to keep him happy after 2 more. he fired the agent who negotiated that contract so he's probably not thrilled with it.

Yup, the last year is a team option. I'm sure you're right about the extension, I'm just not sure exactly how it works. Either way, ridiculous contract right now.

There’s no doubt in my mind Mitch will be a more valuable player and more conducive to winning than KP. He will never have the raw scoring numbers, but he’ll be more efficient, he’ll rebound better and their defense should be comparable as Mitch gets more consistent, with Mitch having a higher upside defending off switches. The truth will reveal itself in a couple of years when the Dallas pick turns into a top 5 pick and Mitch anchors our defense.

i can't understand how a gem in the 2nd round connects to tanking

especially since it wasn't our pick
it was the bulls pick we got via trade

so that

A game over .500? First-round exit? Lowest attendance in the entire league?

Maybe it looks great in comparison to the Knicks' past season, but let's be honest. It's by no means great.

Nets made the playoffs in a year when 8 teams were tanking in the league. That will not be the case this coming season. The team was really nothing special just a bunch of try hards. Kyrie is only slightly better than Russell but more injury prone and more of a head case. They are nowhere near a top team in the East this season.

Knicks need to give that money to kadeem allen and lance thomas doesn't deserve 4.7 million dollars if lance want to come back 1.7 million thats all the money he gets.
The club would like to bring back the veteran Thomas if the sides can agree on terms, as SNY reported last month. Thomas is well-respected by the organization for his professionalism and as a mentor to younger players.

An SNY source said the club remains in touch with Thomas. The New York Post reported on Tuesday that Thomas is a "favorite" for the remaining roster spot.

The Knicks could also choose to keep their 15th roster spot open in case any of the players on the Summer League team impress them enough to earn a two-way contract. In that case, they could convert point guard Kadeem Allen's deal to a traditional NBA contract and sign a Summer League player to a two-way deal.

The Knicks waived Thomas prior to the date by which $1 million of his $7.6 million salary became guaranteed for the coming season.

The Knicks originally acquired Thomas, 31, as part of a three-team trade in January 2015. Thomas was previously the longest-tenured member of the Knicks' roster.

He averaged 4.5 points and 2.1 rebounds in 17 minutes last season while playing in 46 games.

Thomas, a Duke product, played high school basketball in New Jersey and was raised in Brooklyn. He has eight seasons of NBA experience.

Yup yup. He does typical big man stuff while also being super nimble. Mitch was such a great get. I'm so glad we didn't move him.

I like Lance since he is a good dude that works hard. But would prefer to save the roster spot open for someone who may impress during summer league or trade or anyone of promise. We have enough vets. Dont really want to add Lance at this point.
