I was there last summer for 2 weeks. I'm not sure I could live/retire there though.
But it is cheap. Lot of "social media stars" live there because you need so little to live on.
Did you have a nice time? How were the people? The food must've been amazing. Were you in Bangkok?
I was with my brothers and had a fantastic time. Of course we went out and ate & drank, partied. But we also explored other Islands and did Muay Thai classes. We were mostly in Phuket. The beach was whatever. If I could do it again, I would try to stay somewhere more secluded with a nicer beach. It would probably be cheaper than Phuket which is a tourist central.
The Thai massages were amazing too. And no, not that kind of massage. To get those kind of medical/sports massages in the States would run you at least $200. It was less than 30 USD over there. My back and hips miss that kind of therapy.

And if you're wondering, yes, yes he does. Dude does not give a f*ck.
The sex thing would scare there. You can't tell the difference there. I guess I'm still not fully progressive.
I assume that's what you're referring to. The other thing is going out to bars would concern me. I don't want to get roofied.
IMHO, you can tell lol. They are really dolled up with enchantments. A lot are sex workers and will be aggressive approaching you at clubs/bars, so you can just put 2 and 2 together.
There was a lot of what looked like Russian mail order brides with sugar daddies if that is your thing.
I felt safe over there. I wasn't worried about getting roofied or anything. Obviously still be cautious and use common sense.
All the workers there were nice. The servers, hotel reception, tour guides, housekeeping, massage therapist, everyone. I got really sentimental when I left and said goodbye to them. Some of the most kind and good-hearted people I met.
