Real question is what do we do with Randle.
He will want to get paid for his regular season accolades for previous years.
I would make OG permanent PF and try to move Randle after showcasing him early in the season.
Get Mikal on 3 way deal or something.

Yes, lets trade a double-double offensive tool, multiple time all-star, and all NBA for someone who was player of the week once.

I admire his mid-range game.

He shouldnt even reach free agency. The Knicks will have a change to offer and sign him to a contract the day after the NBA finals is over. Theyll have a minimum a week beforehand to get it done.

No way OG forced his way into Game 7 without the idea of returning to this team next year

I could see OG signing with Houston, OKC or San Antonio.

The Knicks are too much Brunson and the Villanova Boys. And with Randle coming back, things will get more complicated.

I doubt they traded for him without an understanding that he's gonna resign

If we lose OG to free agency then everything Leon and company accomplished goes down the drain and we go back to being the laughing stock of the NBA. The team that no one wants to play for. The coach that no one wants to play for. All of this gets solidified. It would be the biggest mistake in franchise history if we do not lock this man up especially after what we saw in January when this team was fully healthy with him.

I mean, until the contract is signed, nothing is guaranteed

We don't know anything at this point. We don't know how much the FO is offering him, or how much he's gonna get offered from other teams. Most likely is he plans to re-sign cause we can offer the most, he's just using free agency as leverage to ensure he gets the money he wants from us.

negotiating tactic

ofc he is going to entertain offers outside; its the prerogative of the knicks FO to pitch to him with the least amount of bloodshed they could go for

My tinfoil hat tells me OG intentionally played 5 mins in game 7 just to help the Max Contract narrative. Furthermore, I bet Sammy and Leon approved.

IDK which part of this extremely straightforward story is confusing, but the more Leon pays OG the more money flows into the Rose family bank account.

OG is getting paid. Period. It’s just a question of how high Leon can justify given the narrative du jour. I’d expect more of these “Team XYZ interested in OG” stories to leak.

why arent any of you concerned about overpaying him -while being stuck with a player who could always be injured?
The Knicks need to overpay for Herbert Jones...

There is gonna be competition. At the end of the day, overpaying OG is better than losing OG for nothing (and by extension, losing IQ/RJ for nothing).

If PG stays in LA, then OG will likely be the hottest ticket around. I can easily see Philly or Detroit throwing the max or near max at him, and NY will have to match.

Read on Twitter

Of note: While league personnel are of the mind Siakam will certainly be re-signing with Indiana, there was word circling among team officials at last week’s NBA Draft Combine that Anunoby’s situation with the Knicks is not as cut and dried. Perhaps those signals to rival teams will only help Anunoby elicit a larger dollar figure from the Knicks. But various teams left Chicago with the belief that Anunoby could reach unrestricted free agency and consider deals from other franchises in addition to New York, sources said.

I dont like the fact that OG- knowing his injury history is trying to squeeze out as much money as possible...
He's well aware of his injury history...

Him demanding max money and always being injured were my main concerns when we traded for him, but nah I was called negative.

We can offer him the most money right?? Then if he wants that kind of money I suggest a sign and trade, we can’t lose him for nothing. That will set us back.

Maybe we can see if he wants the Nets and trade him for Mikal and Cam Johnson or to the clippers for Paul George. But we need to leave with something!

Leon's son is OG's agent. I don't know why anyone would truly believe the Knicks aren't completely aware of what OG wants and haven't actively been engaged with him since before we acquired him.
