And just for the record....PHX cleared space in hopes of luring Kobe Bryant as free agent.
They "settled" with Steve Nash. We chased Lebron for two years. At least the hopes of having him join our team. We were wrong and we "settled" for Amare. If by some absurd achnce we don't land this guy I'm certain Walsh will add the necessary pieces to this roster to make it a contender. With that said I still think he's coming....but if we have to "settle", maybe it won't be the worst thing in the world.

Agreed. If Wilson Chandler is our "consolation prize" then you really can't complain.

How would we be able to keep Chandler and sign Melo as a FA? Trade Turiaf? The thought of that just has me giddy. We could always use Chandler or Gallo in a trade for a center down the line too. Its just more assets at our disposal.

In the meantime though

Amare
Melo
Felton
Gallo
Chandler
Fields
Douglas
Mozgov
Randolph
Williams

Is one deep ass team to build from. Whoa momma.

Amar'e 18,217
Felton 7,560
Gallo 4,190
Chandler 6,391
Fields 789
Mozgov 3,343

That's $40 million. Assuming we need another $15 million to sign Melo, that's $55 million. Then we have the cap holds and our first rounder. We probably need the salary cap to be at $60 million to be able to accomplish this.

AR is 2,911
TD is 1,145

Assuming a $60m cap, Melo's max salary would be $18

Stat - 18.2
'Melo - 18
Felton 7.6
Turiaf 4.4
Gallinari - 4.2
Mozgov - 3.3
Randolph - 3
2011 first rounder 1.25
Douglas 1.1
Walker .9
Fields .8
Rautins .8

Chandler - 6.4 (cap hold)

$69.95m

Knicks would have to shed $9.95m in salary somewhere in order to give 'Melo the max and have any realistic shot at retaining Chandler in the off season.

I think this a question to which everyone--including the commissioner--wants an answer.

If Denver wants Chandler, they can have him, Curry and 3 million for Melo - but that's the whole of the deal. Nothing more.

It might not happen until next fall, and potentially even later - depending on how insane the owners are.

Berger also noted that trade talks between the Denver Nuggets and New Jersey Nets are back on. "The Nets, after backing away a week a week ago, are slowly starting to make progress again on a Carmelo [Anthony] deal. Most executives believe that will go right down to the deadline, because the Nuggets believe they can get the same deal then that they can get now. And the Nets aren't going anywhere either, they want Carmelo."

This guy tends to contradict himself he has said melo won't re-sign with new jersey but now says he could get traded there. What does this mean to you?

That NJ is completely desperate and will trade for Melo wether they have his word on an extention or not. They bank on him caving in because he's about money first.

Or it could be Denver (again) throwing the Nets back into the mix to get NY to cave.

Unless the Nets are willing to try the rental with option to buy, they're just spinning their wheels. No way Anthony signs there IF they give up the package that Denver is demanding. Their only hope of convincing Anthony to stay is to keep as much of their core as possible, including Harris & Favors - and trading nothing but a parcel of picks / expiring deals.

I love this whole "making progress on a deal." The nets and nuggets have been making progress on a deal for MONTHS apparently. It really is absurd. Everyone knows what the key pieces are...it's not like it takes full 8 hour days to figure our the principal terms and come to an agreement. The fact is that either (i) the Nuggets are waiting till the deadline to get full use out ofMelo and want a higher pick from the Nets; (ii) or, more likely, Melo is not planning on signing an extension with the Nets.

Yeah it sure seems like bluffing. I don't buy that Denver was the one that pulled out of that 4 team trade early in the season...I think everyone agreed but when Denver went back to Carmelo he said "i'm not extending with NJ" and that THAT was what caused the deal to collapse.

And there's been multiple times since then for something to happen IF Melo were actually ever willing to extend with the Nets and it's not happened.

So now the excuses by excuse makers waffle between: a) the Nuggets are waiting to see how good they could be when their bigs return (to which...we're not talking about Dwight Howard returning here, were talking about role players) to b) they are now apparently wanting to make sure that the Nets draft pick is as worse as possible (why they want to hold Melo as long as possible) and that it's not Melo not wanting to re-up in NJ (to which...yeah, what they really want to do, assuming Melo did change his mind and would re-up with NJ...is to wait and risk him changing his mind again just for a few extra spots up the lottery poll...eye roll).

People really do not think things out ably enough...which is why so many people buy crap coming out of the mouths (yes both of the front and back ones) of guys like Wojina.

It was also reported a few days ago that Carmelo want to go to a team and bring a star with him. Knicks already have a star so obviously that doesn't include a trade with the Knicks. These are the Nets trade assets.

Devin Harris
Derrick Favors
5 first round picks (I believe its 5, correct me if I'm wrong)
Troy Murphy (expiring)
Sasha Vujacic (expiring)
Anthony Morrow

Looking at that, its common sense they have the trade assets to get at least another good player with Carmelo. The question is does Carmelo want to play for the Nets in general. Not the roster, but simply the organization. A few weeks or maybe even months back he made a comment wondering if the Nets were going to be like the Clippers when they move to Brooklyn.

One that thats for certain is this isn't going to just be a two team trade. This will definitely be a big trade.
