It really sounds like B.S. And why would Melo agree to go to a team trading everything?

And why would the Nyets need to beat the best offer (the Knicks I guess) by that much?

They only need to beat it a little, not a lot.

And how do they have 4 picks to trade? I guess a couple of them at least are the bad ones, but still -- seems to be well beyond reason and what they need to do.

Their task is to convince Melo to come -- not to beat the Knicks offer by 10 yards when they only need to beat it by a foot (after convincing Melo to come).

Why in God's name would Melo go to a team with no future? This is odd.

As is Prohkorov's denial. But I think he thinks he's got momentum and he's going to drag this out and play very hard to get -- I've dealt with Russian businessman before, it's their M.O. He is playing very hard to get now, feels he's got things right where he wants them. But only if Melo is agreeable.

And why not re-enter the talks? It only makes the Knicks maybe have to give up more? Strategically it benefits the Nets.

This is so stupid! Amateur hour all around. Walsh is the only one who knows what the hell he's doing. But that doesn't mean we'll win. Because Melo also may not know what he's doing.

A few hours ago he had that article stating Nets were in advanced talks with Denver on a new deal. Then this article below...Now I cant find the article on Yahoo....After the guy claimed Walsh in a wheelchair was the reason we lost out on LeBron I've lost all respect for the man as both a credible writer and as an individual

wow maybe they took it down that article is now making rounds from espn to foxsports to a few others this is really getting interesting this is where I wish Sheridan would say something he is really the main man in all of this he has been on top of it as much as anybody else I know he was on the radio today but what he say right now through all of this he doesn't tweet much he will have a chat tomorrow i believe which should get interesting and see what his latest update is.

Nuggets GM is a pathetic worm. They are overpricing their player. Is Melo a superstar? Yes, but he does not want to be a Nugget. A player who is a FA after the season and does not want to play for their team makes him less valueable.

I would just tell the Nuggets to shove it up their ass. Offer them Chandler/Curry/Felton/AR/first rounder and Call it a day. If not, we will be more then happy to just sign Melo in the offseason and use our assets elsewhere.

The tone of his article has the feeling of

"I was told to release this news in order to drive up the Knicks asking price, I hate Donnie Walsh that handicapped pr*ck"

The Denver Nuggets and New Jersey Nets are once again in advanced talks on the framework of a blockbuster trade for Carmelo Anthony. And once again, Anthony must be sold on agreeing to a three-year, $65 million contract extension to push these long, winding negotiations to completion.

The Nets and Nuggets are discussing a deal that would send Anthony, Chauncey Billups(notes), Melvin Ely(notes), Renaldo Balkman(notes) and Shelden Williams(notes) to the Nets for Derrick Favors(notes), Devin Harris(notes), Troy Murphy(notes), Ben Uzoh(notes) and four first-round draft picks, a league source with knowledge of the talks told Yahoo! Sports on Thursday night.

Now, the pressure could be back on the New York Knicks to sweeten their offer and get Anthony before the Feb. 24 trade deadline. Knicks president Donnie Walsh has seemed willing to let Anthony go into free agency, when New York can try to sign him in the summer. The Knicks and Nuggets have negotiated steadily in recent weeks, but Denver has been frustrated with New York’s reluctance to part with key young players in a deal.

For the Nets, the next step would be for owner Mikhail Prokhorov to meet Anthony in Los Angeles during All-Star weekend and sell the Nuggets star on a future with the Nets. It’s still unclear whether such a meeting would happen. Prokhorov has continued to publicly say he’s no longer interested in trying to acquire Anthony.

“Mikhail has not changed his mind,” Prokhorov’s assistant, Ellen Pinchuk, told the Associated Press Thursday.

Sources said Anthony’s agents didn’t even know until Tuesday or Wednesday that the Nuggets and Nets had restarted talks. The teams resumed negotiations over a week ago when Denver called back the Nets in the aftermath of Prokhorov’s abrupt ending of talks on Jan. 19.

This is still a steep price for the Nets to pay for Anthony, and far more than the Knicks seem willing to give up. Among the draft picks the Nets are expected to give the Nuggets are their own 2011 first-round selection, the 2011 first-round pick they acquired from the Los Angeles Lakers, a future conditional first-rounder from the Golden State Warriors and another future first-rounder.

I don't buy what Prokhorov's assistant says. It is obvious Wjina and BSPN crowd have more credibility than Prokhorov's assistant.

One thing I'll caution Knicks fans about: Don't believe a word of Prohkorov saying the Nets are out.

No chance.

But it could indicate that Melo is still not interested and he's protecting himself and his team from further embarrassment.

In other words, if the Nets are out, it's because of Melo but not because of any stand that Prohkorov is going to stick to. He'll definitely do a deal if Melo will take the deal.
