so then why does NY have 4 gms working in the FO?

its the FO job to get the players here.

To work on building a team?

Melo basically has all the power of a FA. He could have delivered himself here with one sentence: "I will be a FA this offseason."

Denver's hand would have been forced, and he would be a Knick. Game, set, match. He chose not to.

Like I told you weeks ago. The problem with that is the following:

Denver could go all the way through the season and then sign & trade (under a new CBA) Melo this offseason to NY for something very close to what we are offering now (Chandler + AR + filler) because we will need to move pieces to get under the cap. So, there is no motive for Denver to get a deal done with us before the trade deadline. Especially considering that they can use Melo in this post season.

All the pressure is on Melo because he wants (and you can bet his advisers are telling him to) get his extension before the new CBA.
Play time is over.

hes done all he could, 7 months, of course hes not hitting FA with 65 on the table and a new CBA coming

He also could have publicly stated in clear terms his desire to be here. He hasn't. He wants his money. That's fine. It's his right. If his choice is between money and NY, he chooses money. I get that and I'm ok with that. He isn't giving himself to NY then. If he wants to be in NY, he can be, he might not get all of his money though. It's his choice really. NY or money and until he makes that decision, you can't even say he was in it for NY. -Jitpal

That's not even close.

Best Case: Melo stays in Denver. Signs with Knicks in the summer.
Good Case: Chandler/Curry/1st.
Bad Case but Acceptable: Melo is a net.
Unacceptable Case: Trade everyone not named Amare for Melo. -Jitpal

Keys: imo and inevitable.

I don't see this going back to a bare bones deal.

For the record, I'm saying holding on to Gallo, Felton, Fields and Mozgov is better for the future of the Knicks than trading for Melo and Billups. -Jitpal

Just as we diss the Daily News for spewing trash when it's negative, I'm equally dubious about their positive news stories on the Melo front.

Screw including D'antoni in a trade... can we just hire someone to "get rid of him"

not really clear, article is worded strangely. definitely conference call fri afternoon. but the article could be taken to mean he set up the conference call on thurs night, or he met with melo on thurs night. im thinking it means he set the call up on thurs night

Wow I can't believe Dolan has already met with Melo.

Early bird special.

Surprising.

Dolan already met with Carmelo on Thursday night, at least according to the NYDN.

So then I guess he never gave NY a better chance than anyone else who could pay his salary demands. -Jitpal

I dunno Sham. I think he's pissed with the way Denver has handled this whole thing. They have attempted to force him some place he didn't want to be and have held him up longer then he wanted to be held. I honestly believe he could care less about Denver. If he wins a chip in NYC his jersey will be retired anyway

how much would you hate someone on our team who did what you want melo to do ?

Chandler, Curry, Felton, Mason, Buke is all I'm willing to part with. They can take it or leave it. They hold no power here. I understand where you're coming from but I'm still salty about that last trade we did with Denver some years back. I just can't let it go

Why does that even mean anything? We already know Melo wants to play here... a meeting with Denver's GM and front office would mean a lot more in my eyes.
