we were this good last year with all our picks. what part of that don't you understand ?

The part where that has anything to do with,a top 5 team in the league not being good. Isn't hard to understand at all. You're just wrong.

Now if you want to change the topic and say that Mikal wasn't worth 5 picks, that's a different discussion that I agree with.

We have not been a winning team for the majority of the last 25 years. Thinking a top 5 team ain't shyt is just nonsense.

But are we a top 5 team? Maybe with a good coach we are. I think the impression from december is carrying over----at the latest after the deadline things have changed IMO. In no particular order I think we would lose a playoff series vs. the following teams:

OKC, Cleveland, Boston, Lakers, Clippers, GSW and Wolves. And then you have the Nuggets, Rockets and potentially Pacers as well where I'm far from sure we'd win. I think the somewhat more honest evaluation has us somewhere at 8-10. I don't think looking strictly at the record and pointing to those 1-2 more wins gives us an accurate picture of where we're at. The notion that we are somewhere close to where we were last season despite giving up all those assets is not wrong at all.

We finished top 5. We have multiple all stars. We have talent up and down the roster. Are we a championship team today? No. I believe part of that is directly tied to the HC but, we could definitely use a couple of upgrades and maybe just logical adjustments to get us over the hump. This is as close as we have been since Ewing basically.

Start Mitch with KAT. Hart to the bench. Play the bench more. Pressure the perimeter more on defense. Make the team deeper while running the lineup he wants. Rim protector at the 5. This is what we have heard all season. Well, what is he waiting for?

Mitch/PRECIOUS
KAT
OG/Hart
Mikal/Deuce
Brunson/Payne

Stagger as needed. Shamet still in the pipeline if needed. Things he should have been trying as the season wound down. He waits until it's too late. Just like with Elfrid/Rose. Mitch/Precious/KAT/OG should be more than enough as a FC rotation without playing a 6'4 PF!

Whatever. This is a good team with a bad HC.

Thibs is not the guy. That's my final answer. Anyone who watched the rotation last game should be able to see that clear as day.

That the 2020-21 Knicks not only made the playoffs but also had homecourt advantage in the first round the year after a 21-win season is one of most impressive coaching accomplishments in the last decade.

His rotation with Payton and Rose won us basketball games at a rate that no one could've ever expected. Once he pulled Payton from the rotation and started Rose, we got blown out in 3 straight games by the Hawks. And I hate Payton as a basketball player.

To suggest that Thibs is flat out a "bad HC" after the Knicks completely overachieved in 3 of the last 5 seasons is just not a serious argument.

It's fair however to argue that he's done a poor job this season and that he's not the right coach for this team.

He's not the coach we need. You can hang on words all you want like bad HC but, he has done a poor job this season is exactly the point. The first season he was here was impressive. Until we made the playoffs. He is who he is and IDC if saying he's a bad HC isn't quite right. He's not the HC that is gonna lead us to a title no matter who is on the roster. We are beyond raising the floor now. We need to raise the ceiling. I don't think he's the one to do it. So he is a bad HC for what we need.

PS

after seeing the rotations/minutes last game... He IS a bad coach.
