Guys wanted to keep around a lazy wife who made you work 60 hours a week to support her...just so you can come home and have to make dinner for her, do the laundry, wash the dishes, and clean the house. :nonono:

Leon did the right thing getting rid of a lazy coach who refused to put in the work necessary to adapt, making life much more difficult for the players.

Whatever coach he selects will be a better fit for the personnel, and will actually coach the team.

I don't care who they interview or request to speak with, all I care about is who the final hire is. Leon knows his own job is on the line so he's not going to fumble this.

CyKnickal wrote:What I love is all these media hounds that complain about the Knicks media policy...that they don't talk, don't leak, don't give anything.....but they somehow know we want Giannis, KD, Kidd, Udoka, Kat was the reason Thibs got fired, Malone, Wright.....etc etc.

I don't buy any of this ****...Kidd, Giannis, KD....it's nonsense. If they didn't believe in the roster they built, they wouldn't have fired Thibs. They're looking for the right coach that will fit this squad...it has nothing to do with pipe dreams about players possibly coming here.

Giannis is in Greece with his family, and here we are like bozos holding our dicks for him. KD has one more year left, but we are going to do another Carmelo and tear apart our core for him to come a year earlier. (We have to send back more salary than the Suns...matching his will cost a lot of our players not named Karl and Jaylen.

You fired your coach because he didn't utilize your roster correctly, right? So why would you dismantle it.

**** all that noise. Get your coach and run this **** back.

Both can be true though. Giannis is an upgrade bc he is the rarer transcendant top 3 NBA player that is still 5-6 years left of prime (not 2 or 3 years left).

We should all ignore the noise. BUT imagine they end up settling with Bryant. He would become an immediate scapegoat. He would be the one hired because nobody with a pedigree was available or interested. So this will either be Kidd or some has been who will be significantly worse than Thibs. If they were prepared, they would immediately go with Bryant and spend the summer going in front of the media defending explaining dude’s credentials

I like the new forum with extra mod policing. It's like watching people do a creative writing assignment:

"Do all your same agenda based posting and complaining, driven by the same motivations, but make it seem fresh and new and not overtly ban-able"

And of course the coach search/choice/process/lack of process is the perfect Rorschach test/reveal.

Yeah, Bryant would be in my top-three choices regardless of whose available.

But what was made very clear by this season and playoff run is that we need to play basketball like we're in 2025 and not 2005, and I support any hire that brings us into the present day NBA.

no offense but this is sort of a thing that people repeat that isn't really true. unless you think an awful lot of the coaches in the last couple of years don't coach modern basketball. because a lot of them are awfully similar to thibs and rely on a lot of the same principles.

there are legit complaints about thibs involving minutes played, his ability to forge relationships with players, giving players too much freedom on offense, etc. but this whole can't coach "modern basketball" thing is sort of a cliche that people just say. you're really saying you want more passing or more motion off ball or want to play at a faster pace. but you need the personnel for those kind of things. we couldn't play like the pacers with our roster and put their roster in the half court and they're not too good.

i don't know what your age is but the knicks had this idea once before. they hired don nelson and they were gonna stop running the offense through ewing and make anthony mason play point forward and change how they play. it didn't last long before they realized what a mistake it was. i say all that to say this, it might just be the case that jalen brunson can only really be jalen brunson if you let him dominate the ball.

I get what you’re saying but there has to be a coach that the Knicks can get that will at least try a 5 out lineup for a decent portion of the game. There has to be a coach that looks at the lack of touches from Towns in general and thinks that hey maybe we should draw a play here to give him the ball.

There HAS to be a coach who can draw up a play off a timeout or someone that runs something other than “Brunson save us” for the last 9 minutes of every game.
When you say 5 out line up who is that 5th guy? We ran 5 out but you have to have either Mitch or Hart out there. And nkbody who wants to coach more than a year is starting Miles McBride, KAT and JB together.

What I don't get is whether you like Leon and Co or not. You can't really deny the CAA/agent connections. It basically got Brunson here (relationships).

I don't see how anyone can think connected super agents thought there plan A was firing the coach and putting all there eggs into the basket of "hoping" another team would grant them permission. It simply doesn't make sense with how they have operated in the past.

So I am still operating on these 2 things

1. They just didn't think keeping Thibs around held any value anymore. He reached his ceiling and they thought a new voice was needed and comfortable going through a process to find that new voice.

2. They have a list of top candidates and getting the ones that are currently employed out of the way shrinks the pool so they can move forward with other choices.

We should go with a rookie coach, one of the top assistants available (Bryant or Quinn)
the veteran coaches available have been fired for a reason. we have a good team with veterans and i think a capable rookie coach should be able win and grow with this roster.
