Hoodie Melo going up against MVP Westbrook.

Gotta say I kinda dig Melo letting his hair grow out a little bit.

Every single highlight from melo this offseason doesnt involve creating a play for his teammates.

All isolated jumpers.

Kp can not prosper playing with someone like that.

It's a one minute long highlight clip from a pickup game...that's it...he's not even featured in it that much. Yay for stupid analysis!

Holy ****, they're all highlight clips from pickup games. That's all you need to know. Using it to analyze how someone is playing or whatever is stupid as hell.

if you can edit video for shots, you can definitely find a pass.

it's not stupid just because you don't agree with it. :D

Nah man, it's still stupid. Drawing any type of conclusion / analysis off of a 1 minute clip or, if DKilla wants to stay petty, 5 clips is beyond stupid.

Who's a stan? I want to trade him just as much as the next guy, I'm just not blinded by Melo hatred nor am I just lacking analytical skills / critical thinking skills.

Also, this is kinda ironic coming from someone who was on Phil's jock for the last year+.

What I wanna know is how the hell Luke Kornet keeps getting picked up for these pick up games. Good to see Lance out there sweating all over everybody, I bet that dude goes 110% in pick-up games too.

I hate to say it but a big reason for that it's because KP can't guard stretch 4s on the perimeter. They all killed us.

That's not it

All Anderson does is stand in the corner and shoot, like most modern 4s he's not taking KP off the dribble or pulling up in his face, so all KP has to do to guard him is stand in the corner too

What happened was our PnR defense was so bad that any time a 1-5 PnR was run, the guard would get lost on the screen, and the big (Noah, KOQ, and Willy alike) was never good enough to cover, so KP has to come off his man and help, which leaves a wide open 3 if our rotations aren't good (spoiler: they weren't). KP was fine 2 years ago, when we had RoLo (who was a very good defender), and even Jose who was a terrible man defender but understood defensive schemes well enough to know how to rotate (unlike Rose/Jennings). Combine that with Fisher who was actually pretty good at getting the players to play good team defense as opposed to Horny, and that's why KP looks like he regressed this year defensively

KP is quick enough to keep modern 4s in front of him, it's just that we as a team were so bad at guarding the PnR that he couldn't afford to stay with his man

Statistically speaking, KP is a plus defender all around, and more speciically, when he plays the 4, the man he's guarding averages 22.7 points per 48 on .518 eFG% and 16.7 PER. Opponents shot 4.2% worse overall when guarded by him, 1.7% worse on 3pters, with him holding opponents to 1.84 points per game less than they would against an average defender

He definitely needs experience to become a great defensive player (and core strength so we can play him at C), but he is absolutely a good defender right now even at the 4

these advanced stats sound great and all but just using my eyes, Willy can't protect the rim, KP gets blown by on close-outs all the time and he fouls way too much. Also I know that advanced stats say timmy has been better on defense since he left the knicks but I don't believe it until i see it.

The root of that problem is what I said

He gets burned on close outs because he either has to help due to poor PnR D from the rest of the team, or he doesn't trust the rest of the team enough, and drops too much. Then he has to close out, which nobody can close out from the rim to the corner just due to how fast the ball moves. And cause he's the one guarding the rim most of the time, he fouls a lot cause he still hasn't had enough experience to protect without fouling more often than not. And experience will help him when to drop into the paint and when to stay on his man.

KP's issues are mostly due to inexperience, scheme, and poor defenders around him, not ability or athleticism. Get him a decent defensive coach (at least an assistant coach under Jeff), a few more years in the league, and players that aren't turnstiles defensively
