What I don't get is whether you like Leon and Co or not. You can't really deny the CAA/agent connections. It basically got Brunson here (relationships).

I don't see how anyone can think connected super agents thought there plan A was firing the coach and putting all there eggs into the basket of "hoping" another team would grant them permission. It simply doesn't make sense with how they have operated in the past.

So I am still operating on these 2 things

1. They just didn't think keeping Thibs around held any value anymore. He reached his ceiling and they thought a new voice was needed and comfortable going through a process to find that new voice.

2. They have a list of top candidates and getting the ones that are currently employed out of the way shrinks the pool so they can move forward with other choices.

Just last week I defended the Knicks telling everyone to be patient for a full coaching search and that it was the right way to go about it.

This method - begging other successful teams to have their coach - is embarrassing and pathetic.

the only other avenue is Kidd publicly coming out he doesn't want to coach the mavs anymore. If he doesn't do that the Knicks will need to move on.

Again I have to assume if the Knicks had Kidd as there top choice they had to know through back channels that he wanted to come no?

I can't believe this is a situation where the Knicks FO was like...hey we like Kidd...lets see if he's interested by requesting permission to talk to him.

That doesn't make any sense to me.

If the Knicks from the beginning intended to hire Bryant. It's pretty clear why they took this route.

Interesting thought, is there a reason they requested Udoka and Finch earlier than Kidd...why not do the requestion all at once if they were all equal footing? Or was that to throw off the sent that the Knicks already connected with Kidd through his agent and he has interest in coach but they wanted to cover it up by not just obviously requesting the one coach they talked to by requesting 2 other highly respected coaches?

This is not a plan. I don’t think Leon even wanted to fire Thibs but I’m sure Dolan forced his hand and now put him in this situation where he’s scrambling desperately

I will say this again, dallas denying permission does not guarantee the knicks will not hire Kidd. Let me say this is not me endorsing Kidd either, just reality, it means if Kidd wants NY and Kidd is Leon’s top choice, will the knicks now be willing to offer Dallas compensation for Kidd, that’s all this denial does. At let me add, no franchise wants to keep a coach around that no longer wants to be there, they usually acquiesce and let the coach go for compensation. Again, not saying it will happen nor should the knicks, but it’s not a definite Kidd won’t be the knicks coach as some of you assume, just means more obstacles
