FWIW, Ric Bucher says Melo will be Knick. Also said Denver is asking for Mozgov, Fields, Gallo, Chandler & picks LOL.
Minus Gallo, DEAL. Denver will cave.
I'm starting to wonder if their strategy is to keep asking for more until the other team gets so frustrated they say FU. Then they go back to Melo and say "look we tried but nobody wanted you bad enough, but you can still sign this".
I agree with this thinking, and it's what I've been saying for a while. If you're Ujiri, voluntarily trading away your soon-to-be free potential free agent superstar player is career suicide. He was already fooled once by Bosh - it would be hard to fleece him again. He'd go down as the worst GM in NBA history next to Layden and Isiah. You know that Melo cares a lot about the money (the reason why he opted for a 5 year deal in 2006 as opposed to a 4 year deal that the 3 Queen s opted for), so you try to use that as your primary leverage. Now the objective becomes to retain that player no matter what it takes. That would explain why we've seen the rampant trade rumors of all these other teams, and would also entail coming up with those crazy trade offers.
As crazy as it sounds, perhaps the only way to make Denver succumb to a trade is if Kroenke gives in. This could explain Dolan's increased involvement. So I think Donnie, MW, and Dolan are focusing more on convincing Kroenke rather than dealing with Ujiri, since otherwise they'll go through what Billy King and Prok went through.
