why amnesty amare back then? get him a PG, that was the plan I thought... I really don't want 3 max players, unless all of them are truly elite and play different positions of course.... in either scenario the only elite player is CP3... we needed to get the most out of amare....

If your 3-4 is Gallo and Amare, and your 5 isn't Dwight or Tyson, then you're going to suck at D and rebounding.

AS i SAid you could fill in center with a good rebounder/ defender..... I am looking long term and eventually replacing amare toward the end of his deal..... until then, I fill in the center with a good rebounder and defender and I think we would be fine...

The only way we were getting CP3 was through a trade. Probably the exact same trade as the Melo trade.

How are we filling out the roster with no assets?

Just an idea albeit one thats both a pipe dream and makes a lot of basketball sense.

But yes, TRADE STAT. Sick of his injuries and BS. More importantly he cant play with Anthony.

Makes no basketball sense. Dirk at this point is the better player and his style of play does not rely on athleticism. If anything he has more good years than Amare at this point. Also no trade clause and the Mavs franchise player.

You honestly think they would trade him for Stat who is inferior, not their franchise player for many years, overpaid, etc?

Man a CP3/Chandler/Amare core would be much better than what we have now.

My question is short-term... who's going to win you more games? I think Paul-Melo-Tyson wins more games than Paul-Amare and a bunch of Chuck Hayes types at center. Again, how is Chuck Hayes going to cover for Amare's softness when even the DPOY can't really do it?

How is Chuck Hayes supposed to cover for Amare's futility on defense and rebounding when even the DPOY in Tyson can't even do that?

And you bring up a good point that we didn't end up with a great end product, but I think that's more a result of foolishly amnestying Billups over Amare. Let me ask you this... what's a better core, Paul-Melo-Tyson or Paul-Amare-Tyson? Cause your best argument against Melo is that he only plays in Team USA Mode when he respects his teammates. Well then, why not pair him up with his olympic teammate, as we could have done had we amnestied Amare?

And if you think Amare is a better fit with Paul-Tyson than Melo, then why is Amare not even on Team USA, whereas Melo is their 6th man?

LOL because amare was not allowed for the team USA coz of his injuries and not because hes not a better fit.

And when cp3 made the toast, melo wasnt a knick so its obvious that he wants to play with amare not melo. Its just that hes friends with melo so he wanted him to follow him. If cp3 wants to play with melo then he shouldve gone to denver.

Who knows? maybe walsh even didnt want to trade for melo coz he knows he doesnt fit. Thats why he offered them a lowball offer.

According to a person who spoke with wedding attendee Amar'e Stoudemire, Paul made the reference during a speech of a potential union of himself, Stoudemire and Anthony, saying, "We'll form our own Big 3," Paul allegedly said.

Sounds like he wanted to play with Melo too.

Melo and CP3 are the close ones off the court. Not CP3 and STAT

True, and the truth is, we probably never had a real shot at him. I do think management spent most of the summer under the belief we did though. It wasn't until CP3 passed on us did we use the amnesty to swoop in and take Tyson.

I personally think it was a better play to bet on Amare after the 10-11 season than to bet on capspace to get you a quality PF and a PG the following summer

The main mistake was not betting on Amare, but pairing him with Melo. Contemplate for a moment that for the same package we got Deron Williams in that trade for Melo, say having a 4-team swapping with Nets and Jazz. The team with a core of DW/Amare/Tyson would be a much more coherent unit.

I think Melo is better than Deron, but Deron would be a good fit with our frontcourt.

The GM of the Jazz himself said that he purposely kept quiet about Deron, and didn't tell anyone he was available.

I do wonder how Walsh would have played things out if he knew Deron was on the market.

because melo was his friend. If he really wants to play with melo then he shouldve went to denver but he wants to play with amare too and I believe that his priority coz theyre not that close yet he wanted to join him in new york.

I dont have a link but it was a common knowledge here. Amare has been an injury prone player and suns didnt want him there. while amare was bad last season and I doubt dolan wants him there after the back injury.

Stat wasn't allowed to play at the World championships... I think that was per the Knicks.

CP3 is closer to Melo than he is to Amar'e. Heck, CP3 might even be closer to Tyson than Amar'e. They're all friend regardless.

I think Taj Gibson would be a good fit for the Knicks.

Toronto fan here. I remember being excited to see Amare when he played against Toronto in his rookie season.

How the mighty have fallen.

Does he really have that much negative value? You guys sound like you would settle for Calderon and Kleiza.

One of the main reasons Amare is still a Knick is probably because the Knicks aren't taking deals like that back

That's the key, ROOKIE season...before the microfracture surgery. Yea, so many injuries later...for Donnie Walsh and the Knicks to shell out that kind of cash is something no team will take without the Knicks EATING salary.

Return to New York Knicks
