Thank you kindly.

It's quite possible Minnesota feels comfortable with Towns at the five, surrounded by elite perimeter defenders—but lineups with Towns at the pivot haven't yielded the best results on defense. In Minnesota's most played lineup excluding Gobert, and Towns at the five, the Wolves gave up 122 points per 100 possessions—ranking in the 21st percentile.

I think if we did 5 out and put up Boston level 3 point attempts per game, we’d prob score 222 points per 100 possessions :D

This team would be D’Antoni’s wet dream

And we might give up 500 points lol

Something to think about, Thibs might be able to maximize KATs defense here.

Bates Diop is being included in the trade. Where is the appreciation thread?

Yea probably… knowing Thibs. Personally, I’d like to see…

Brunson | Payne | Kolek
McBride | Shamet
Bridges | Hart | Dadiet
Anunoby | Morris | Bates-Diop
Towns | Robinson | Achiuwa | Sims

Team has more position versatility

Brunson | Payne | Kolek

Bridges | Hart | OG | Dadiet
Anunoby | Towns | Morris | Bates-Diop
Towns | Robinson | Achiuwa | Sims

Its noteworthy that KAT had his best rebounding and blocking years of his career 2016 through 2019. Guess who was his head coach during this time period?

DVo was good when given 40 minutes. When given bench minutes he was not.
Deuce was solid both ways but plays better defense.
Lastly, it’s looking like DVo was not totally happy here, strange if true.

Deuce probably will come off the bench, where he is superior and cheaper.
I wanted DVo here, but (oddly) the Mikal trade changed things.

He's a below average rim protector (41st percentile in rim defense last year), and he doesn't disrupt much off the ball (1.5 deflections per 36 =21st percentile, doesn't force turnovers at all.) His poor decision making shows up on the defensive end, so if an opponent forces him to make multiple rotations/decisions/reads, he's likely to mess up.

What he's good at is being very large and strong with solid foot speed. Posting against him or isolating against him such because he's got big time core strength and really long arms. He was able to give Durant and Jokic a very hard time last year. You want to put him on a juicy matchup where his help responsibilities are less. He's fine as a secondary rim protector/shot blocker, just not great as the primary.

Third team in the deal rumored to be Charlotte. Smells like Nick Richards might become Knick Richards.

To be honest I didn't really see where Duce was getting minutes before this trade. Since we couldn't go long stretches with Randle at the 4 and the organization views Duce as more of a 2 than a point guard, he seemed like he was going to be the guy to get his minutes cut. Now, Duce has a real role on this team.

I think the smart thing to do is to bring Hart off the bench, even though he is likely in the finishing 5 with Brunson, Towns, Bridges, and Anunoby. Frankly, I kind of like Duce in the SG slot.

Brunson-Duce-Bridges-Anunoby-Towns

I think Bridges/Anunoby are better at the 3/4 than the 2/3 and the point of attack and wing defense offsets not having a true rim protector. Plus there is a little more ball handling and shooting in this lineup.

The bench is a concern for sure. I think Kolek and Payne battle it out for the 15 or so MPG that Brunson rests. Hart will get 33-35 MPG as a Swiss army knife between the 3 wing positions. To start the season Precious should get 25 or so MPG, I would assume 15 as the backup big and 10 next to Towns.

Brunson (33)/ Kolek or Payne (15)
McBride (28)/Hart (20)
Bridges (35)/Hart (13)
Anunoby (32)/ Precious (10)
Towns (33)/ Precious (15)

In this breakdown, there are about 6 open minutes which I'm putting at PF (although with Hart it's interchangeable) which could expand by cutting some Duce and/or Precious minutes. I think it will be an open competition between Morris, Shamet and Dadiet for that role as the 9th man. Come playoff time, this 9th man isn't in the rotation. And once Mitch gets back, he takes Precious role - where he could be very valuable in a limited bench role.

The Knicks are actually set up nicely to absorb the injury woes of Mitch. But unless Dadiet develops into a rotation piece, losing OG for an extended period of time is going to be a real issue.

More importantly, Karl-Anthony Towns has averaged 22.9 points, 10.8 rebounds and 1.3 blocks over his entire career with shooting averages of 52.4, 39.8 and 83.9. Time to get excited.

Karl-Anthony Towns has averaged 21.4 points, 10.4 rebounds and 2.2 assists in 11 games versus Joel Embiid in his career with shooting averages of 47.7, 35.6 and 84.2

Charlotte won't be sending players out. They're the dumping spot for salary in this deal. They needed to dump Bates-Diop and Daquan Jefferies to get to the right salary line. New York can't take back Richards' 5m in this deal without sending out another 5m somewhere else.

Being that Thibs is stubborn with lineup changes, I think he only goes that route if KAT at the 5 isn’t working and breeding mix results. I don’t foresee him forcing Mitch in the lineup just for the sake of things, similar to ihart last season and us playing OG at the 4.

KAT at the 5 doesn’t work. That’s already been proven.

Why do you think Minny brought in Gobert to play with him?

Expecting interior defense from KAT is like expecting Randle to not do spin move turnovers every game.

You can say KAT’s best stretches in the playoffs defensively was guarding the 5, especially against Denver and Jokic. So I don’t necessarily agree it doesn’t work. Pairing KAT with Mark Bryant and with Thibs who’s the big man whisper of sorts himself knowing how to get best out of his center position team wise I don’t know I think it could work.

KAT for Randle I have no problems with at all. Losing Donte pisses me off. Huge opportunity for Duece.

Feel like I did when I woke up in the middle of Election Night in 2016 and saw that Trump won and thought I must still be dreaming.

Pure basketball, at least offensively, I get it. Easy fit.

But defense, heart, grit, toughness, all the subtleties and intangibles that matter, this is a backwards move. He was just getting benched for Naz Reid in last year’s playoffs. Paying supermax dollars for someone who gets benched in crunch time in the playoffs is nasty work.

And yall are happy about this?!?! And we lose Donte?!?!

I’m disgusted.

I was trying to figure out how the Charlitte side works. Basically Jeffries was S&T'ed using his early Bird rights to Charlotte into the Hornets' non-taxpayer MLE.

The Knicks now?
C KAT, Robinson, Sims
PF Anunoby, Achiuwa, Morris
SF Bridges, Okeke, Dadiet
SG Hart, McBride, Shamet
PG Brunson, Kolek, Payne

Bates- Diop was the extra salary with Jeffries?
