Lets say the new CBA allows for MAX offers starting around $12M a year... Melo would stand to leave approx $4-6 Mil per season on the table. I think thats the absolute worst we would see in a new labor agreement.

i agree

part of me hopes melo goes to knicks. all of me hopes he doesn't end up on bulls

It's not that we are not open to it, it's that, at this point, we don't have to do it. If the Nuggets want to trade him, they are going to trade him for the best offer. We have to see what other teams will offer to rent him before we start throwing everyone in there to send to Denver. Right now, it's difficult to believe that a contender has the assets to beat an offer of Gallo, 2011 first rounder and Eddy.

Every thing I've heard is the Nuggets will not just take Gallo/Curry & 1st. (Most media outlets) It's been said Denver would probably do 2/3(Gallo, Chandler, Fields) Curry & 1 or more picks. They are reluctant to take Chandler for obvious reasons(RFA) so that leaves (Gallo & Fields)

I would be very angry if Donnie turned down a potential deal for Melo due to not wanting to part with Fields.

Personally I really think the deal will be:

Gallo/Fields/Curry/2011 1st/2012 2nd/ 3 million

IMO the Knicks need to come with a realistic offer and present it immediately. Team is in a slide (L4 straight). Spite can become a factor.

From what I understand the Denver GM has gone on record saying that they will not get Boshed with Melo. Melo said yesterday he says he will be traded by the 24th. Whoever has the best offer will get him, as I said before, let's see what the best rental offers are before we decide what we have to do to beat those offers.

As far as being an emotional decision for Denver, remember that the Cavs were furious at Lebron and they still did what was best for the team and get whatever assets they could by sign and trading lebron. Denver will do the same no matter how pissed off they are when they do it.

Exactly... As been stated before, Donnie has been in the business too long & has made many friends as a GM because he has been fair in his dealings with other GM's in his career. I personally don't expect anything other than that if/when he makes his offer to Denver.

As I said before I really think the deal will look something like this:

Gallo/Fields/Curry/2011 1st/2012 2nd (OPTION 3 million) Only if the latter is needed to get the deal done

in a limited role he's fine. yeah he's overpaid but once we trade for melo we won't be under the cap for a long time anyway. if this reduces the number of assets we have to give up i'm all for it.

Giving up Fields is bidding against oneself. The Knicks offer only has to be a little better than the Bulls offer which does not require Fields.

Now this I could live with. If we could keep Gallo and Fields in any trade it would be a huge success for me. I feel both guys are perfect to put next to Melomare.

The whole Chandler doesnt wanna sign in Denver thing seems stupid to me. IDK what their future holds but they have a solid fanbase and a good team right now. Sure alot of that is b/c of Melo but what other teams have cap room to offer Chandler a contract?

Chandler/Randolph or pick/Curry/1st for Melo and Birdman would be STRAIGHT GANGSTA.

Seems easy to top Bulls. Bulls offer must include Deng, who Denver does not want. Bulls do not have high draft picks. Best is probably the Charlotte pick, but that one is unprotected in 2016 - probably too long for Denver's tastes

Denver will probably not want Chandler because they are cutting costs & do not want to pay a lot to re-sign him.

But Gallo and Fields are fit to get paid next year. its not like they have 3 more years on a rookie deal.

I agree on Donnie being reasonable but the problem is that you are assuming that your deal is the ONLY fair deal. We first need to understand what's more important to them, young player, draft picks or salary savings. For example, I would argue that another fair deal is:

Eddy + Gallo + Azubuike + Roger Mason Jr. + 2011 1st and $3 million for Melo and Harrington's horrific deal.

http://www.realgm.com/src_tradechecker/3/

My point is that we need to see what other offers they get and what they value most and we move forward. There are many ways we can be reasonable with them without gutting the roster.
