semantics in a dwight howard trade?

the semantics is thnking everything involves the New york Knicks.

cgmw wrote:If it had nothing to do with the Knicks, then I wouldn't be having PTSD flashbacks to the Eddy Curry trade.

That's just weird.

cgmw wrote:Trading Bynum for Howard is incredibly smart; incredibly franchise-changing. It reflects a culture of winning that is starkly opposite from anything we've seen in NY for generations now.

It's also a risk, Bynum would have gladly extended.

cgmw wrote:I'm sorry the concept baffles you, but it seems like pretty direct comparison to me. How that's "derailing" a thread in a board that says "New York Knicks" at the top is what baffles me.

Because Dwight going to the Lakers has nothing to do with the Knicks.

Semantics: Being literal about the fact that the Knicks were not a team involved in the trade instead of realizing that this is a Knicks message board where Knick fans react to moves made by other teams. Where Knick fans should (if the lights are on) make comparisons between how two of the flagship franchises in the NBA handle their business.

If you want a literal connection, we could trace the trade history of the two franchises back to when they met in the 1973 Finals.

The way this trade impacts the Knicks is the Bynum angle.

In superstar trades you want good young players, preferably on rookie contract; draft picks, preferably lottery; cap space; cash. ORL got ??

Interesting. I wonder how an offer that included signing Lopez to the max would have helped Orlando's cap situation....

I'm not sure this trade has much impact on the Knicks. I do think it's an ugly reminder of our history of dysfunctional management.

But to make the thread purists happy, I'll say that having Bynum on the Acela Corridor should make for some interesting battles the next few years. Having regional rivalries in NY, Brooklyn, Philly, Boston, and maybe DC the next five years should make things more entertaining.

Another winner of the deal has to be Antawn Jamison right? Perhaps the basketball gods are rewarding him for time served in Cleveland with no Lebron.

It impacts every team with hopes of a championship in the next few years, in that it reduces their chances. If the Knicks are in that group, then it impacts the Knicks.

Looking at it now, Orlando did the best they could with what they were given. The way Dwight **** them over, there was no way they would fleece any team in a trade.

This way, they at least got 5 draft picks out of it, two mid first round prospects from the last two drafts, and gotten rid of Duhon and J-Rich. Al Harrington only has 50% of his deal guaranteed so they can waive him. They still have the amnesty option they can use on Fat Baby next season.

This deal gets them some prospects and puts them in a good tanking position. Not exactly Sam Presti good, but still solid.

They used their amnesty on Arenas but your point stands. Turk and JJ Reddick can also come off the books.

I forgot about Arenas, that's how irrelevant he is. Turkoglu's final year is only 50% guaranteed, same as Harrington. The only question is if they're willing to pay 9M to two guys that won't play for them.

Yet another screw up Dwight got them into, Redick's deal was fully unguaranteed if he had been waived before July 8th. That could've happened if they traded Dwight before that date.

Looks like the trade is official now.

Can't believe Orl did this deal, they got nothing but mid to late 1st round picks.

Never seen an organization screw itself that bad when you had teams like the Nets and Rockets bending over for them with way better deals.

This is horrible for Orl fans, not only did they have to deal with Dwight acting like a douche but they end up getting nothing for him.

The only thing I like about this trade is Kobe has no excuse not to tie Jordan with 6 rings now. Kobe has to either put up or shut up.
