People bring up Dirk's "decline" kinda often, and I'm not buying it. This apparent "decline" happened just months after he put a team on his back and led them to a championship through a ridiculously tough western conference and over LeBron, Wade, and Bosh. Dirk admitted to doing basically nothing during the off-season and not being ready when the lock out ended. He was coming off a high, and didn't expect the season to start. I recognize the guy is 34, but it was barely over a year ago when people thought he was playing at his career's peak. Plus, he's one of the most skilled players of all time, the kinda guy who ages like wine as he doesn't rely on athleticism. Dirk is still the best offensive PF in the league, and probably will be for the foreseeable future..

he's declined, but it's not a true decline. he's declined only very slightly and minimally. dirk is incredibly smart. he's not as fast as he used to be (although he was never really fast), so he found ways to make up for it. dude is 34 and is still putting up 22+ ppg with great efficiency, and hasn't missed the PO since he was 21. he's not putting up 25+ ppg anymore, but it's not much of a decline at all.

Anyone you name is used to being a 3rd option on a bad team or used to having a role off the bench.

You would have to revamp your whole roster in about 2-3 years to trade for another star, trade for draft picks or get a all star and some good vets.

Your roster is one of the biggest question marks in this bat.

But in my opinion there's no way your team and contender should be anywhere near each other.

PG:Jose Calderon~D.Lillard
SG:Bradley Beal~C.Budinger
SF:Chandler Parsons~R.Jefferson

All of these guys are scoring options. We play team ball here. Calderon, Beal, Parsons, Lillard, Budinger can handle the ball and shoot the ball. RJ can also shoot the ball. Jose and Lillard are master pick and roll guys. Athletic finishers from the big men.

And? Most of my guys will be young. I trade for a couple of superstars with my draft picks and high potential players, maybe sign another superstar and boom this team is the best in the NBA. Other option is the guys I have develop the way I want them. Even if none of the guys develop, I have the easiest rebuilding time. I have the lowest fail potential.

Question mark yes. But its a bigger question mark to those who don't know the youngins.

This year theres no way Im a contender. Maybe a playoff team.

And with that Im done. :)

I recognize that he isn't as atheltic as he was when he was 24, but like I said, this time last year, people thought Dirk was at his all-time peak. Did he really decline that much in athleticism between June and December of last year? The guy was out of shape, he admitted to it and the Mavs organization admitted to it, but being temporarily out of shape does not equate to a decline in his game. Like I said, I recognize that there has been a gradual athletic decline over a number of years (I remember him leading fast breaks pretty often early in his career), but I am highly skeptical that he somehow lost all this athleticism over a 4 month period and any gradual loss in athleticism over a longer period has obviously been made up for in other ways, as proven in May/June 2011.

actually I remembered how terrible he was early on in the season when he was completely out of shape, so I looked up his splits.. he averaged 24ppg post all-star break and 20ppg pre-all star break. He had to play himself in shape this year which was an anomaly. For what its worth he averaged 27ppg in the playoffs. I think its safe to say Dirk is pretty damn elite and more than capable of being a #1 option on a championship team. Especially a team that has Joe Johnson, Ben Gordon, Al Horford, and Rip Hamilton running around screens to take the pressure off..

Yeah good rankings. The only thing I disagree with is my coach. Chris Paul is my coach.

Not for nothing but those rankings are crap. No defense? If you actually bother looking really at it you'd realize, like I've said already that Brand was one of the best post defenders in the NBA and Marion among the best and most versatile perimeter defenders. My bench is loaded with defenders. The team has terrific passing and rebounding at all positions. 3 20 point scorers. Bad cap? Did you even bother trying to look at the cap numbers or are you just guessing and assuming? My core is still all in their prime and the 3 rookies are extremely high upside players that you would know if you actually knew about young players and not assume things. The attempt? Yeah whatever. Do or do not. There is no try. You? You tried.

Formulaic and based on cliches it was. Not just for my team but for a lot of teams.

Maybe I need to find some serious basketball heads to judge this...not just casual fans.

Those are crap rankings. They really are. I can go through them all and, in classic moocow style debunk most of it. Don't get me wrong. I don't think I have the best team, but 25 is absolute crap.
