The Knicks are clearly his top option but i would think bkln would be his second option and if the Knicks passed on trading for him, AGAIN, he might give up on the Knicks. I also think he would be good with the Heat and Lakers if he was passed up again by the Knicks and bkln didn't get a trade done for him.

Anthony Davis?

AD would be an absolutely amazing fit but just no way Lebron lets the Lakers trade him and yes Lebron runs that show.

Why would the Cavs accept that? Unless Donovan demands the Knicks only, which he probably wouldn’t do. He’d gladly go to Brooklyn, Miami, LA or wherever where he can be the man than be 2nd fiddle to Jalen. We always think we’ll get a good deal with our “leverage” and it never happens.

The plans have also changed with how good Jalen turned out. This isnt 2 years ago. Leon obviously got cold feet back then too. He didn’t think Donovan was worth the price, and I doubt that has changed or that we want to minimize Jalen now.

You also keep saying Donte is a weak defender, but you know that just isnt true. He’s average at the very least. Go watch his defense on Maxey game 6 against the Sixers (you said you didnt watch it) and tell me he’s a weak defender. He has been known for defense mostly in his career, but has just been asked to shoot and play more this year.

As you said, I doubt we do anything crazy anyway unless something great really opens up. We arent trading Josh or Donte. Maybe we’ll dangle Deuce, Mitch, Bojan, and some picks but most likely will just see how Julius does back in the fold.

i posted the numbers to you a month ago. we're way better defensively with him off the court than on. he has occassional games where he'll play defense (like donovan mitchell) but he still sucks
knicks defensive rating with donte on the court: 116.83
knicks defensive rating with donte off the court: 108.17

that's a good package for the cavs. no one is going to offer that much more since he's going to be a free agent soon. deuce is a legit good prospect, donte is a nice 6th man and you get picks.

but like i said this is all probably moot anyways. we are gonna run it back and hopefully we are healthy next year.

I gave you numbers before too. Where are you getting your numbers from?

https://www.basketball-reference.com/teams/NYK/2024.html

Basketball reference shows us with a 120 Offensive Rating and 113 Defensive rating per 100 possessions with Donte on the court. His defensive rating is the same as OG and Josh.

Also Donte clearly had among the best advanced stats on our team this season. EPM, BPM, VORP, WS, TS%, etc he is top 5 in all of them. His defensive RAPTOR was always positive when they tracked that and Bucks fans still rave about missing his defense more than anything.

Donte was also top 5 in deflections and top 15 in steals per game this year, while playing under 30 mpg. The dude is averaging a block per game in the playoffs too. He’s expending too much energy on offense now, but when guys return he can settle into more of a 3/D role again.

Anyway, think what you want. Just saying Donte is clearly not a bad defender and he’s going nowhere.

I hope we stay away from Mitchell. Let’s see if your boy Julius can be the 2nd guy we need. He was looking like it before he got hurt. The grass isnt always greener.

Nobody should ever use these stupid numbers to judge how good or bad a player is at playing the game they play, not 100% anyway.

Numbers don't tell the whole truth.

3Vincenzo is not a bad defender, he isn't a great one but definitely not a bad one.

HopelessKnick wrote:Before the start of this season: "Is Brunson truly a first option on a title team? Or is he rather a 1b or good second option on a true title contender?"

After the Randle injury Brunson went on to average 33points/8assists on 47%/38%/85% through the final close to 40 games. The conversation was: "But this is the regular season---is he that dude during the playoffs or is he too short when playoff defenses gear up?"

Then he went on to get you 35points/8assists in 11 playoff games. I don't think you'll find any serious NBA fan/follower/analyst/team official/ex-player even having the slightest doubt about Brunson being a 1AAA first option on a title team. That's not even debatable anymore---in fact everyone is know wondering if there are even better first options in the league than Brunson. He makes the top 5 in any case. So IMO with this regular season run you could already see the Mitchell ship getting ready for departure but after this playoff run that ship really has sailed. It has sailed past the Atlantic ocean already.

Mitchell was always an iffy fit next to Brunson. But after Brunson proved to literally be the better player out of the two it doesn't even make any sense anymore IMO. This is Brunson's team---he is THAT guy. We ride and die with him. The rest will be a supporting cast, nothing more nothing less. And Julius now had 50+ games to see that Brunson is just better than him and the true alpha dog. I'm sure he has drawn the right conclusions and will look to fit in next season. And the Knicks will contend for the title---nothing more nothing less.

If there is any way to get a Mikal Bridges here without compromising our rotation---then hell yes. Otherwise, thanks but no thanks. Sorry for sounding so cocky guys, been the first time in 25+ years I am really feeling that way about the Knicks. Thanks to Brunson. He makes everyone a believer.

Randle is much better than Bridges.

Only inside the paint as a PF that can get rebounds and score but Mikal is better everywhere else. Better defender, by far obviously, and a better shooter, but we shouldn't be comparing the two who are both very different players that play different positions anyway.

I wouldn't want OG as our fulltime PF, i would want him at SF, playing some minutes at PF, with Mikal at SG and then we would just need to find a PF that could take 25 - 30 minutes a game there.

We do lose some major rebounding which is a focal point of this team but overall we have bout a 3 year chip window and legit depth/defense/shot making.

Looks great

I really prefer trading Randle for Towns

and/or whatever it takes for Bridges.

The rumors are that Paul George is going to the Sixers. Besides, I'd rather have OG than PG.

I'd rather have OG as well, even with all of his soft tissue injuries he has every single year, but i wasn't saying one or the other, i was on the get both train.

Who comes off the bench?

Why would either need to come off the bench? Both can play multiple positions.

can I get a PF that can make an open 3, plays good to average defense, and rebounds. Please and thank you.

Deni Advija?

he is a little scrawny, but he would be awesome.

My idea going into the season was Jeff Green for context.

I do not think we have a shot. Our front office does not like to overbid. Especially considering his fit. Nets, Heat, Lakers, Rockets, and Pelicans will go all in.

He is a no-bird UFA. It will be hard for Dallas to keep him. Dallas should be a luxury team next year. They can not give him the full MLE. Maybe the tax MLE at the best.

On the other hand, our cap situation should be worse if we pay big bucks to keep PG and IHart. Maybe we can give ever the tax MLE.

I think if the Knicks are his top option, it’s time for him to speak up. He’s not the only option for New York and the FO was proven right last time when they didn’t overpay for him. There’s a price where Mitchell makes sense (and this is coming from a guy who prefers to upgrade the forward or center spot) and there’s a point where he’s not worth it anymore.

I would not be upset if we simply:

1) Extended OG 35m+ per
2) Extended I-Hart 16m+ per
3) Sign Burks to vet min
4) Sign Precious to vet min
5) Draft two 3&d 6’8 guys; one Euro stash
6) Extend Thibs for 3 more years

Run it back with everyone healthy.

iHart / Randle / OG / DDV / Brunson
Mitch / Bogs / Hart / Burks / McBride
+2-3 draftees learning on the bench

Then see what shakes out at the trade deadline.

Return to New York Knicks
